is it dangerous to let PC hibernate?

Hello!

All help and suggestions appreciated.

I just need to know if it is dangerous to let the PC hibernate.  Lately it has been taking sooooo long to turn on in the morning (I think b/c of updates and so on) that I decided to just let it hibernate when I'm not using it.

I use XP (I think SP2) and NIS (just renewed), and usually Firefox (which crashes a lot but Chrome froze pages a lot, so that wasn't any better).

Just fyi, I don't always update things because on PCs, it doesn't tell you what it is updating, unlike on Mac.  (Next computer will be an Apple.)  I don't like that, so I usually refuse.  The Java f.e. tries every day, but I read it was causing crashes so I don't.

However, the NIS is always on.  So I was hoping that that would make my PC safe.  I always turn off Firefox when I'm done with it, but I'm worried that the PC is vulnerable to hackers when left on.  Is this true?

Is this a bad idea?  As you can tell, I'm not very techie.  Haha, don't use big words!

Btw, if anyone's listening, it's a bit difficult to find where on the Norton and/or Symantec websites I am supposed to post for help.  And I was on Symantec last night and today, and tried to sign in, and put "forgot my password...," and it said it was sending me a new one, but it never did.  What's up with that?

I don't need it anymore b/c I did manage to find my old password (and maybe it only works in Norton site?), but it seems to me, if it's going to tell me it's going to send a new password, it should do it!  Or send an email saying, "hey silly!  you were on the wrong website, you are registered on Norton!"

Thanks!
