Is it still possbile to buy N360 without using an online vault?

I REALLY dislike the online vault, it has always required me to change my password daily. I keep my Norton password protected, so I don't see the difference. I keep my passwords & cards backed up to my computer via DAT file.

I much rather being able to see and edit my logins on my computer.

I am interested in switching from NIS 2012 back to 360, but do NOT want to use the vault. The reason I switched to NIS was because 360 kept crashing. I'm sure that it has been fixed by now.

Is there a way to buy a new subscription of an older version?

Any help would be appreciated. The sale ends today.

360 - $89.99 down to $53.99!!!

Hi wagygirl

You shouldn’t need to change your password every day.

You can purchase a new subscription and then download and activate an older version of the Norton product.

Check out Calls thread on the link below.

Whether the crash problem with 360 has been sorted out in your case is hard to say but if you purchase 360 that key will only work for 360 and as 360 has standard and premier you can not change from one to the other.

I don’t use the vault but have read that if you have an older version installed and just update the older version with an over the top update then the ability to keep the vault local to the computer is possible.  For more assistance on this you might like to post in the Norton Toolbar / Norton Identity Safe forum on the link below where there might also be information to stop you needing to change your password every day.

YOu don't have to use the Vault with NIS or N360 -- just disable it in the settings and disable the toolbar too if you want to.

I'd stick with NIS if only because it is cheaper unless you desperately want the so called tune up tools which I prefer not to have or use.

Here's the setting in NIS 2012 / V19 that's on what I'm using at the moment on this computer.

If it's available in 2013 / 2014 I'd expect it to be similar but I can't check now.

In N360v21 the setting Hugh is talking about can be found in Settings > Identity Protection.

Thanks K,

Just occurred to me that OP wants to use local vault but not OnLine so is the answer you can continue to use the local vault if:

-- You renew an installation thast has the local vault using Norton direct online Renewal

-- You extend your existing installed local vault installation with a valid key but don't reinstall.

-- You do not uninstall you installation with a local vault and reinstall clean using a version later than 3012 either manually or using Norton Remove and Reinstall

-- You do a clean install using a 2012 download or disk.

Think of any others?

How do I choose to use my local vault instead of an online vault?

Are you using a local vault now?

If so, you should not have any problems continuing to do so. As mentioned above as long as you just renew the subscription, even if you use a new key, the program will continue to work with no change.

Even if you do an over the top upgrade, you will still retain the local vault. Just be careful to read the little pop ups, as some will try to get you to sync to the online vault. If you accept that, you will lose the local vault.

So once you convert to the online vault you can never go back to the local vault?  If so, that is outrageous. It is -our- data and we should not be forced to keep it "in the cloud" if we don't want to anymore.

Hi Astyanax,

It is possible to get your Local Vault back after going to the cloud - just a bit of a PITA - but possible.

I bought a new laptop that had NIS 2013 installed and I had nothing but trouble with the online vault. It did not save my passwords, it forced me to change my vault password everyday, because it kept telling me my password was wrong.

I uninstalled it, and installed the NIS 2012 I had already purchased and has not expired yet, with the passwords/logins on my computer.

So I have both- an online vault with maybe 2 logins and my NIS 2012 with computer based logins.

Since Norton no longer extends subscriptions when you purchase early to take advantage of sale offers.

I have to wait for my subscription to expire or have only 1 day left before buying. That makes me lose out on the special offers.

I was wanting to upgrade back to 360 because of the backup ability & the online backup.

Anymore ideas and help?

I have disabled the toolbar, but my logins and cards were no longer available. It shut them off.

More detailed info on how to switch back to regular vault from online vault would be appreciated.

<<  Since Norton no longer extends subscriptions when you purchase early to take advantage of sale offers.  >>

If you mean special offers from Norton on their website then I don't think you can defer buying but I don't know that you have to install and activate right away and the clock does not run until you activate -- but I've no experience of how Norton "delivers" when you buy from them online instead of renewing online.

If you mean specail offers in retail stores or online then if you buy and get a key with the product or by email then you certainly used to be able to keep it until you needed it provided you did not activate even one PC since that starts the clock of all if you buy a 3 User version for example.

I say used to be able  because a user has recently reported being told by support that newly purchased older version keys could not be used to renew current versions. But I've not seen any clarification of this since there are a couple of situations where this may be true but they are exceptional and not likely to be encountered by ordinary users.

Hope that helps.

On the problem you had with the online vault I'm sure others could help you resolve that.

Hi,  I want to be sure that you are aware that there are two separate passwords to gain access to your online vault.

The first is to your Norton acct. the second is to your vault.  I normally have to sign in to my vault only and stay signed in to my Norton.

I also back up my online vault to my computer.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked but I also disliked it until I grew accustomed to it. I thought perhaps your password problem might be easily resolved.

 https://identitysafe.norton.com/faq

"Why do I need two passwords to login to my vault?
Rather than simply relying on your Norton Account credentials to provide access to all your private data, we felt that it was prudent to enforce a separate strong password for online vaults to minimize the chance that your data could ever be breached by would-be thieves."
