When a person lies, they eventually get caught because their story changes. I wonder if Norton 360 is REALLY doing a backup as it's story seems to change as well?:
I completed the first full backup of my a particular folder that contains 169,000 files totaling 301GB. I set the backup set to run "Automatic", but I'm not sure what Norton 360 does with that. The backup was done yesterday around noon. I then modified a file last night about 11pm, thinking that file would get backed while the system was idle overnight. However, looking at the Backup property of that file this morning at 7:15am shows that it has not been backed up yet.
When I look at the details under Backup within Norton 360, it shows the last time the backup set ran was the first time it ran yesterday. However, if I go under Tasks, it shows the last time the backup set ran was 6:31am this morning. I also noticed that the "Ran During Idle" says NO, so I am wondering when it did run!
1) Why are there different times listed for the backup completion depending on where you look?
2) If the latest time is correct, why doesn't the changed file reflect having been backed up?
3) When testing the restore process, I see yet a third different date/time stamp for when the backup was last done.
While looking at the Tasks listing, I manually ran the backup set right from there and it said it was complete, but the file in question still does not show that it has been backed up. To be honest, it also does not show up in the backup set as a file that can be restored, so at least Norton 360 is consistent in that. So even though Norton 360 says the backup is complete, it is LYING!
You know, running a backup is only part of the story. You MUST be able to verify that the backup occurred, and then you MUST be able to actually restore a file(s) before you can truly say the backup is working. I cannot verify that the backup program is really working.
I was hoping the automatic backup option in Norton 360 would just backup files as they changed all the time. I now doubt the credibility of Norton 360, much like a bad witness in a trial!
I was hoping to not have to install a separate backup program, but it looks like I am back to using Acronis Nonstop Backup...
