Just installed NIS 2009 on new Vista PC, at the very same time that my ISP upgraded it's mail to Gmail (google). I know that NIS 2009 does not scan web or server based email--BUT--I do not use the web to access my email. I actually access my email through POP using Windows Mail as my email client--in a sense, just like I used to with Outlook Express. It is downloaded from my ISPs gmail account and grabbed by Windows Mail. So my question is, is Norton IS2009 scanning these emails when they are accessed in this way?
Also, and this might change the answer, my ISP uses Gmail with secure socket layering (SSL) turned on. This has not caused me any problems when trying to receive or send emails--but is it still true that Norton does not work with SSL? I do have email scanning enabled in Norton IS and it is not causing any problems, but I can't tell if the emails are being scanned. My ISP tech said that NIS 2009 should be able to scan with any POP client, but he didn't know if the SSL would get in the way.
By the way, I know that Windows Mail does not integrate with Norton AntiSpam--I am not concerned with that as I use the Junk Mail function in Windows mail for that anyhow. (And I don't have it turned on in Norton.) This is not about spam--I just want to know if Norton is scanning my email/attachments for viruses.
Please reply--I have already spent about 3 hours with 2 techs from Norton that I could not understand and who did not understand my situation.
