Is Norton's AutoDetectPkg.exe a portable executable file?

I have the Norton Security Suite ver 5.1.0.29 installed on my Toshiba Satellite (it's the security suite that is based on Norton 360 and provided by Comcast). Everything works great. However, I also have this stray executable cluttering up my desktop called AutoDetectPkg.exe which I never use and want to get rid of.

From what I understand, this is an optional Norton program used by some people to determine what version of Norton they're running and to provide help with upgrading. I believe it was downloaded from http://updatecenter.norton.com back in August 2010.  Anyway, I don't want it anymore.

Does anybody know if AutoDetectPkg.exe is a portable executable? If it is indeed a portable executable, is it okay to right click on the AutoDetectPkg icon, choose "delete", and remove it that way?

Hi micaflakes,

To the best of my knowledge, the .exe you are referencing, does not work with Norton Security Suite.  It only works with a "commercial version of Norton".  You do not have a "Norton Account" set up in NSS, as the license etc, is thru Comcast, so that program is in fact a non player.  I see no reason you can not delete ti from your system.
