Hey,
So I am not very tech savvy but I know I am running Norton 360 version 5 yesterday on the corner of my task bar where my clock is and where my Norton icon is popped up a screen saying there is an update/upgrade and it will take less than 1 minute to install if you want to press start (Not exact words doing it from memory) the other options were close or remind me later. I am wondering if this is a legitimate update and if I click it is there anything I need to do other than wait for it to install will all my setting etc be the same?
Hopefully this makes sense :) Thanks in advance for any help!
Yes, there is a free update to V6 available to current subscribers.
Before you do the update be sure to back up your Identity Safe data if you use that feature.
Then log into your Norton Account and look for the Download button beside your current subscription.
Click on the Download button, and it will download and install a pre activated version of your product.
Be sure to run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
Thanks for your reply. How do I know if identity safe data is on?? Have there been any issues with the update??
Hi,
Do you use ID Safe? IF yes, while your browser is open, click ID Safe and you should see an option to backup data. Save it to a safe place before your upgrade, then if needed you can import it in to v6.

Identity Safe is the module that if you use it will log you in automatically to websites that need a user ID and password ... so you will know if you use it or not!
Thanks for helping guys!! One more question if I don't do the update will my computer still be protected??? Sorry if these are all realy simple questions. I can use a computer just dont understand software and security etc lol.
No problems,
If you do not upgrade you will certainly be protected, but bare in mind that as malware and viruses evolve over time, new technology is needed to keep up.

You are not alone .....
It may help if you distinguish between update and upgrade ....
Updates come down through the automatic updating that takes place in the background and/or through manual live updating and some may need you to restart the computer after the downloading in order to finish the changes --- you will either get a notice to do this when you run the liveupdate manually (maybe two buttons one saying Restart Now and one Restart Later in case you are in the middle of doing something) or it will just happen next time you restart your computer and you might notice it takes a little longer than usual as it cleans up files it can't remove while the computer is in use.
Upgrades that you get a notice about are usually the once a year major change from say V5 to V6 in the case of Norton 360 or 2011 to 2012 in the case of Norton AntiVirus or Internet Security.
And since this is an honest place, that "less than 1 minute to install" is a slight exageration in most cases but it is still remarkably rapid compared with what it used to be.
Where you will not be protected at all is if you let your subscription expire since everything stops dead when that happens -- it does not continue to run but without the latest changes.
Hope that helps but you know where to come .....
Hey again,
I have turned Idenity safe on apparently it wasn't configured before.. Does it automatically import the websites that are listed under it or do I have to do it and how do I do it? There is only one website listed under logins. Like I said before I am not tech savvy incase you can't tell.
Michelle
Also once idenity safe is on can it be turned off???
Hello again Michelle,
When you first configured ID Safe you should have been asked if you want to import your loggins from Internet Explorer. I don't think the other browsers (Chrome and Firefox) are imported.
When you ask "Also once idenity safe is on can it be turned off???", do you mean can you sign out of ID safe? Yes, just click the ID Safe and in the drop-down list select Log out of Identity Safe.
If you click ID Safe and hover over options, you will see Settings. Clicking that will bring up a N360 window. Across from Passwords & Security click Configure [+] and you will see the available options.
Please see below.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you need more help.
Dave.
Thank you all for the help I have now loaded v6 on to my computer and so far no problems. If i have any i'll be back :)
