Welcome to the Norton Community Forum mash609. I believe there are false positives still being found when you scan your computer in "Safe Mode" depending on which OS you have, I would wait untill we get an update from Norton on this issue before you make any adjustment regarding these findings. As well since you ran other scans and found nothing. I believe a request was submitted in the post prior to yours for just such an update.Again Welcome and take care.................................Gorpy1
Thank You, Gorpy1.

What about the people that do not read this forum and do a Scan in Safe Mode and quarantine or remove those files?
As OP 3 months ago, I'm still waiting to put the "GREEN SOLVED CHECK MARK" on this post. This should have been solved a long time ago.
Will I be able to put the SOLVED CHECK MARK on this Christmas or NEXT Christmas 2012 ?

You're absolutely right!!!!
It is past Christmas 2011 and this is still here.
Full scan run in safe mode - identified 4 files from the vista codecs .msi (no action taken and I did not delete)
settings.exe
installedcodec.exe
conflict.exe
mkunicode.dll1
Full Path: c:\programdata\vistacodecs\{f663628d-e11a-49fc-8940-920cba1b6f8a}\vista codec package.msi

Also identified vdredist_86.exe as WS.Trojan.H This file is associated to trial_videoprox3dlv_en.exe - which is a trial version of Magix Video Pro program - downloaded from their website.
This was never found in a Normal full scan - I deleted this file and did not run the program.
Windows Vista all updates - NIS 2012 all updates

Looks like we'll have to wait until Next Christmas. I still have my finger on the SOLVED button waiting to push.
Is there any news on Virus Scanning in Safe Mode for either XP or Window 7 ? Or could we still find false positives? Thanks, If anyone knows? Best. and "Happy New Year All"......Gorpy1
Why hasn't Symantec fixed this problem?
Do they read the forums?
Hello Everyone,
I am looking into this problem. Looks like it was solved for brief period of time after the update to 19.1 I believe but as you all can see it did not really fix the problem. I am going to reopen the defect and let you all know once we have it fixed. Thanks.
I just updated too Version: 19.5.0.145 and performed Full Scan in SafeMode.
Everything can up Clean :)
It works for me two. Thank you very much Symantec.
I have done safe mode scans a few times with Version 19.5.0.145 on Windows XP and Windows 7. All scans were clean. It look like Norton has fixed the False Positives in safe mode scans. Thanks Norton.
Also works for me. Plus computer works better than ever. Another thanks to Norton!
