Is there a Legacy Uninstaller for Legacy Norton Utilities Ultimate 21.4.7.637?

Hi,

I’ve had an install of Norton Utilities Ultimate 21.4.7.637 (shows that in the title bar) on my system for years now, but it’s install directory and start menu icon are called “Norton Utilities”, and I’ve also had the current/new NUU installed since it was released.

I’m trying to get the old one removed and having difficulty, as the Norton Removal/Reinstaller Tool doesn’t seem to find it, even though when I run it, the window changes to the white-legacy theme and says it removes something and requires me to reboot. But I’ve done this multiple times and the “Norton Utilities” folder and all the files within it still exists in my Program Files Directory and runs like nothing happened. Windows also isn’t able to see it via Add/Remove Programs nor appwiz.cpl

I haven’t tried using the Norton tool in safe mode yet, and will after I post this, but I read that the current tool is meant for the newer and supported software, and doesn’t work with the legacy Norton products, or may have issues with them. But I turned off all of the auto-tasks and system optimization features I could on it, as well as killing the process for the LBGovernor

If you’re curious how I ended up with this issue… I believe what happened is that I’ve had NU installed on my PC(s) for decades. So going back to my Windows 7/8 install, which migrated to 10 and then 11, NU was also updated/upgraded/rebranded/migrated to NU16/NUPremium and now replaced by Ultimate. So, for probably a decade now, this version of NU remained on my system, and somehow picked up the name “Norton Utilities Ultimate”, perhaps when I first installed the new NUU? or maybe before the new NUU was released, NUP was renamed to NUU temporarily? It’s been a while.. so I can’t really recall…

But anyways, the reason I kept the old NU/NUP/NUU, or whatever the hell it’s called, is because it had the Real-Time Boost feature, which has since been explained to me to not be beneficial for newer hardware running newer operating systems, hence me trying to uninstall this version of Norton Utilities/Premium/Ultimate…

TL;DR

Does anyone know or have access to a Norton Removal Tool for their Legacy Norton software? I have a “Norton Utilities” Folder in my Program Files directory that opens and shows “Norton Utilities Ultimate 21.4.7.637“ in the title bar and has a dark-theme icon as opposed to the newer, yellow icon for NUU.

The only “uninstall” file I found in the install directory is a Windows batch file located in the x64 subdirectory called “UninstallDriver”, the same directory as the LBGovernor .exe

I’d prefer not to resort to a 3rd party application to remove it and would rather just reset my OS, as it’s been quite a long time and is probably needed…. but that will probably cause even more headaches… lol

With that said, I’m open to suggestions or trusted 3rd party app recommendations

You have NUU installed, so try that app’s uninstaller. Click on the Manage Programs button on the left of the main NUU screen, then click on Uninstaller on the right side. See if the older Norton Utilities program shows up there.
