Quote - I just want reliable perhaps third party back up in the interim.
Response- That may be what you want, but you have nowhere to put it. I am not going to recommend a third party product which I do not know, and cannot recommend that you install yet more software and try to take up more space on a system that has none to spare. Sorry...
Quote- Most people are afraid of data loss.
Response- Yes, sensible people should be. In your case however you seem to already have multiple back ups which are taking up all available space and, as far as I can see, you are unable to retrieve the data that is in most or them. So I have been trying to get you into a position where you have some space and can actually recover the data you have backed up.
Quote- I also noted that on my other machine - There is a Check Current version. I have the old version - so now I have to change that as well.
Response- What other machine? I do not understand what you mean by "There is a Check Current version." Version of what? Do you mean that you think that your version of Norton 360 may be out of date? My current version (open N360; support: about) is 21.1.0.18..
Quote- Can I post if I have any issues?
Response- I hoped I had made it clear that if you attempted to follow my guidance then I was very happy to clarify, help and explain at any point. What is unclear is if you are actually trying to follow my guidance, though I am pleased to note that you are thinking of setting the backups to manual. If you are concerned about your backups then I believe that the sooner you attempt to get the system working again the better.
Should you decide to follow my advice I am here to help. If however you wish to wait for someone else to come up with suggestions for some new backup software then that is fine by me.
By the way, there appears to be an image at the end of your post but it is not currently visible so I cannot comment on it.
Hi! First of all your your primary question has not been answered. I will get to that. Norton backup is a space hog. It adds to your backup, but never really deletes any old versions. If you want to use norton backup, delete your backup sets, remove any vital files from your backup drive and do a quick format on the backup drive and you will be set to rebuild your backup sets. You can also go to control panel, system, security, and under restore points...goto your backup drive. Even if that is turned off you can have restore points that is taking up space. That can take up lots of space.
The answer to your real question is I use crashplan for online and local backup. It also allows you to backup to a friends computer. To a friend and local backup is free.

I have two machines that are running - One Sony VAIO - Y Series VPCYB16KG - Operating on the Version 20.4.40 - a previous issue a community member instructed me where to find the version that I was operating. I also was shown by the technician to check current version. I have never done that on the above lap top.
The other machine - Sony VAIO - E Series VPCEB46FG that has a licence - I just updated the version and the format looks different than the machine that I am having the issues with the back ups.
I will try and upload the pic again.
You have been most helpful and I am glad that I was not afraid to post on here.
I remain unclear about your machines and the version of N360 you are using. Let is leave out the one that has not got issues over the backup (for simplicity only). I believe that the version of N360 on the machine we are worrying about should ideally be the latest version which just at the moment on my machine is 21.1.0.18. If your is showing the version of N360 as being 20.4.40. (or similar) then it looks like an old version and unless there is some good reason not to update (possibly wanting to keep the offline store for Identity Safe) then you are probably well advised to update to the latest version. (You can try N360: Support: New Version Check.)
The image has now loaded but left me puzzled again as to why you have posted an image of Norton Zone a piece of software designed to help you store and share data online, but which cannot be use for backup storage.
Good luck in whatever you try but I should point out that the longer you wait to fix the problem the older your backups are getting.
The one machine that I posted the image - I merely posted that one of my machines has the latest version and the other laptop that has the back up issue has the old version.
I have done as you said and slowly working through it as due to illness and being in ICU I was unable to update the status.
I again say that I wish to avoid data loss.
The machine that I am posting from has the following
Version: 21.1.0.18
Serial Number: 7HK9B9R6FDTT
End Point ID: {A7C515EB-4116-4B69-9437-F8C64A11F6E8}
LiveUpdate Channel: Traditional
Current SKU: 21166061
Family SKU: 21137994
Media SKU: 21294674
I accidentally went to check the New Version on the machine that I am having issues with the back up has a different version and the Norton Program has prompted me to restart my machine - will I loose my back up sets?
Thank you again - I am very, very ill. With a brain injury - you have stated step by step.
