that even a Symantec Tech couldn't do it after an hour's worth of taking control of the machine and trying.
Any progress?
As the other poster noted: "Any drive I insert, Ghost places a hidden folder named VProRecovery on it. I understand its purpose, but when I give the drives back, people think something's wrong, and I have to explain that Ghost did this, not some virus or whatever they may think."
What if we have a specific situation where only one image file is needed and so we don't need extra folders being created everywhere? Any ideas on how to disable creation of these (for some) unnecessary and unneeded folders?
Batch file would not help because the topic is about drives which are not used to recover anything (such as External Drives) - they get the VProRecovery folder put on them for no reason that is helpful to some people.
I actually did figure out the answer years ago:
Turn off Norton Ghost in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Norton Ghost > Stop > Startup type > Disabled
But then you would have to start the service manually each time before using Ghost.
I don't want the VProRecovery folder to exist. I know where my drive images are saved so I could really use a one-click restore option if only that option existed. But I certainly don't need the VProRecovery folders being created everywhere with no way to turn that off w/o disabling Norton Ghost altogether.
I am guessing there is still no way to stop the unnecessary VProRecovery folder creation - I just don't understand the reasons for this to be mandatory.
Only on my external hard drive. Never on a flash drive.
This is (or could be) because VProRecovery folders are created on drives which contain image files anywhere on them. This makes it easier to use those files directly for imaging but it ignores the basic fact of how different people use their computers differently which is why disable option should be made for features like this.
As the poster from year and a half ago noted in the other thread - he constantly has to explain to people what those folders are when he connects their hard drives, does work on them, and returns them to their owners. This is an intrusive feature which unnecessarily labels every hard drive containing image files even if they are just there to be stored as backups and therefore do not require the drive they are on to be *permanently labeled* by Norton Ghost.
To clarify: The topic of this thread is to ask if someone found a way to disable creation of VProRecovery folders while not disabling Norton Ghost functioning altogether.
