Is there any way to install 360v4 without the Firewall component?

I use Zone Alarm Pro on my laptop for a software firewall.  As I was updating to N360v4, a message indicated I needed to remove ZAP in order to install v4 with the firewall.  I like ZAP and also like 360 and have had no problems with 360v3 and ZAP so was hoping that could continue with v4.

Also does anyone know if there is the ability to erase data:  i.e.. NSystemWorks used to have the "Wipe Info" feature for erasing files and folders and actually your whole drive.  This seems to have been eliminated in the N360 features.

Thanks

Hello Yikes

Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum

It's not a good idea to run 2 firewalls at the same time on the same computer. There are other features in ZAP which will conflict with N360. Perhaps ZAP will work ok with NAV if you are careful about which functions are turned on for each program.

I agree and do not want to run 2 firewalls.  I would prefer just to continue running ZAP and not install the firewall component of 360v4 if that were possible.  I had no problems with running ZAP and 360v3 (which did not have a firewall component).

Has the firewall in v4 been found to be effective?   Thanks

N360V3 has a Firewall

Why dont you just install Norton 360 and disable the Norton Firewall, but continue using the antivirus.

Norton will be in a constant "At Risk" Red state

Hello Yikes

See, you had a problem since you didn't even know that N360 version 3 had a firewall. ZAP and N360 version 3 were conflicting the whole time you had both programs installed. That means that version 3 didn't install properly if you didn't see a firewall in the program. I  would suggest running a full scan with Malwarebytes to see if your computer is clean now. I don't think either product could do their jobs properly with both of those programs installed. You can get the free version of Malwarebytes here.

Download the free version, install and update then run a FULL scan. After the scan completes you should post the logs back to this thread.

You can find Malwarebytes here

http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

It is a safer location to get the program from than malwarebytes themselves because some malware creators have large lists of sites that they block. Please be careful to down load the correct program ----the FREE version of MALWAREBYTES

(Thanks to Delph for providing the alternative site)

Please come back and let us know what the result of the scan was. Thanks.

Hello Floplot:  you are correct.  I just checked my laptop and I do have both ZAP V9.1 and 360v3 running (although it is listed as v2.5 - it was as a result of an update in August of 2009 rather than the purchase of v3).   I just checked and the 360v3 has had the firewall running all this time as has ZAP.   I actually used Shields Up a few weeks ago to check on the firewall as I was running my laptop in Mexico with an unsecured wireless router at a house we were at.  Shields Up did not find any problems.  I have also not had any virus problems ever on my laptop.  Viruses are caught & NAnti-spam is also working well.

I will run the free malaware bytes program you referenced on my laptop (am doing all this on my desktop) to see if there are any problems and will let you know the results.

Even though I was able to update the 360 from v2 to v3 without any changes to my ZAP and had no indication from 360 that there was an issue, it appears that with v4, I will need to uninstall ZAP to be able to update to v4.

Hi Floplot:  Here is an update: I ran Malaware on my laptop and it did not find any issues so I think that 360 and ZAP have both co-existed well, but I guess I will have to uninstall ZAP in order to update to 360v4 and hope that its firewall is as successful as ZAP has been.  Thanks for previous information.
