Is there no way for the user account to adjust settings from the user console?

New to NIS here, coming from KAV.   With KAV, I’ve been able to adjust settings from my daily user account.  It seems that with NIS, it seems I have to log onto my admin account.   Anything I’m missing?  Thanks…
