Hi all - the first thing I should say is that my knowledge is very basic. I just had a look at my norton and I can't even tell you what version I am using - although I downloaded the update for 2008 yesterday after seeing the infamous fauxvirus/carny ride file during a quick scan.
The reason I was doing that scan and then a full, upgraded scan after was because of this:
Over the last two days, a couple of the times I logged on to myspace just to check if I had any messages etc, I clicked out of the page by hitting the red x top right corner. When I did this, multiple IE pages opened up (I was using AOL). In each of these IE windows, many multiple myspace sign in pages tried to load. They were almost rolling behind each other in an effort to open. The only way to stop it was a hard shut down. Clicking on the X to close just seemed to open another window. I ran a full updated scan on my system last night and nothing showed up. I have had no problems today until about an hour ago when it happened again. I have myspace set to the US setting but I did notice this page appeared to be Myspace UK. I changed my password after each event so hopefully my page is safe. I ran a full scan on my comp again just now in safe mode and still nothing shows up as being wrong. Any ideas what is causing this?
Now, my one naughty confession is that I have been looking at hiding my IP. Someone told me it was a good thing to do so I looked at a few in Mozilla. They appear to work ok but I haven't used them much. Could I have picked something up there that norton is missing and how do I get rid of it?
BTW, the last time this IE thing was happening, I quickly went into task manager to see what was going on and something with proxy in the title was running somewhere near the top. Ending that process temporarily stopped what was happening but then it popped up again in my list of processes and the windows kept opening. I have just checked now after a full scan in safe mode where nothing was found and I can't see this file in my processes list.
I have been to myspace since but not logged in and out of my page yet as I am worried it will all start again.
Any ideas?
