What I want to know is is it safe, and should I allow the program past norton firewall if it asks. I'm not really that sure how it works, but I would presume Norton firewall will block it by default.
On the surface, the Jact software appears to be as advertised. You should read through their entire site.
I would suggest you perform a thorough search on the internet to be sure there are no negative aspects and you might also check in a few gaming forums, to see what gamers have to say about it.
Last, but not least, please be sure to read the Jact User Agreement here.

Good advice. And don't overlook the Privacy Policy, either. It looks like the site logs a lot of personally identifiable information which JACT says it needs in order to provide whatever the service is that it offers to its users. Logging itself may not be objectionable as long as the information is not shared in ways you might consider to be injurious to your privacy.
if the only basis for downloading the software is to "maybe" get a prize then I would let it be (not do it)....If it needs something as a gimick to get you to use it....great advice from the others.ALWAYS read the privacy statements and then get them translated to everyday English...LOL my 2 cents worth..
My suggestion would be to wait until Norton Internet Security 2010 is Released and then Download the program. The reason I say this is because, as you may know, N.I.S. 2010 has Download Intelligence, which will say either:
- the Program is Safe to install.
- the Program is Un-Safe to install.
- more information is required and recommend not using the Program until more information is known about it.
Yeah, I dont think ill download it. I read the privacy policy befor coming here and thought it sounded suspicious. Just wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks for all your help. I dont think I will let my son download it.

I'm not familiar with the JDownloader application, but I think that
it is unlikely to contain unexpected malicious functionality because it
is open source. Since the source code is freely available, it is not
likely to contain some hidden malicious feature because it would be
discoverable by reviewing the code. From that standpoint, it is
probably safe.
A more complete definition of "safe"
would also include whether the program unintentionally weakens the
security of your computer- that is, its exploitability. For example,
consider the hypothetical example of a webserver program. Webservers
accept connections and handle requests for data from external clients.
A poorly-written webserver, or one that isn't kept up to date with
security updates, can be very "unsafe" from the standpoint of opening
up its host operating system to attack by malicious requests.
Exploitable software defects are sometimes difficult to find, and I
think it is safe to say that no software is completely "safe". The
firewall helps to protect you in this regard by limiting external
access to your computer.
In summary, I think the program
is unlikely to contain malicious functionality, but you should only
give it the minimal privileges necessary to function to help prevent it
from being compromised externally.
I think Reactivate was referring to the downloadable file found on the website. The trouble with Norton is that it does not clearly show what files it has tested even if you ask for the fully report. Moreover, if you click for definition explanations many are not listed.
