Issues with 360 upon restart

I am using Norton 360 v3.0 on a pc running windows xp and I seem to be having a problem every time I start the computer.  I recently had to reinstall 360 and get it up and running again, but a side effect is that every time I start the computer, it asks me if I want to do a custom or complete uninstall of 360.  I’ve done both, reinstalled and I seem to still get this message when I restart the computer.  Any ideas???

Hi Fireman512,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Download Norton Removal Tool from this LINK. Run the removal tool multiple times(2-3 mins) to make sure that all components are uninstalled completely. Go to your Norton Account using this LINK and get the Product Key. You may require this same Product Key for activating the Norton 360 3.0. You can download a new copy of Norton 360 3.0 from any of the following links according to the edition you have(click on the link to to start the download):

For Norton 360: http://www.norton.com/n360s_3
For Norton 360 Premier Edition: http://www.norton.com/n360p_3

Then install Norton 360 using newly downloaded copy and activate it. After installing the Norton 360 3.0, run LiveUpdate repeatedly untill you see the message "No more updates" and then restart the computer. Let us know the results.

No dice.  I tried 3 seperate times to uninstall using the uninstall tool and reinstalled using the links you provided. Each time I tried, I used the tool 3-4 times straight before reinstalling and I used the live update 3-4 times each before restarting the computer, but I still get the same screen when I restart the computer.  One thing of note is that each time I reinstalled, I was not required to input my product code, even though it was supposed to be a complete uninstall. Another thing that I noticed is when I checked my startup programs, I am showing a file by symantec named InstStub.exe in the startup file.

Do you have any other Security programs in this computer?

Did you try installing from Safe Mode?

If not, try that first.

Why is it showing Inststub.exe in the startup list? It is the file responsible for the installation interface. can you go to msconfig and uncheck this? Then restart the computer and check whether you still see this problem?
