Problem: After downloading Norton 360 my desktop icons are all aligned on the left side of my desktop. I can move them, but they revert to this configuration. Similar problem with files. If I open "MyDocuments" all folders and files are shown as unreadably small 'icons'. I want to see thumbs or tiles. But the icon setting 'icon' is now the default. Same with the files/folders in "My Computer"...all shown as icons and nothing I can do about it. Please advise.

I don't know why N 360 should affect that but have you tried:
Right mouse click on blank space of desktop / View / check Arrange icons on grid
I use a very good free program called IconRestorer http://freesoftland.sytes.net/products.html which stores a record of where each icon is put by you and if things go wrong will restore the postions which I find invaluable since I move my icons into groups by topics (a bit like Windows 8 <g>)
Thanks Hugh, that seemed to work for the desktop icons. But I stil l have this issue with My Documents and My Computer which I simply cannot understand. Thanks, though, for getting part of the issue settled.

I think you are into Windows problems and not Norton problems but here goes on the first:
Look for that icon and down arrow my mouse is pointing to; click on the down arrow and choose what you want.
Hi Hugh, Thanks again. If I view My Documents as a list (as it seems you have shown), I don't have a button like the one your arrow is pointed at. Even so, once I have them listed, after I close out the page and reopen it the files have reverted to the icon representation. I think you are correct and that this is a Windows issue, even though I only noticed it after I downloaded Norton 360. Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated,
Uh...how do I determine that? I forgot. I think Windows 8.

WINKEY + Pause key pressed at the same time brings up System Information which will tell you all that.
If you are on Windows 8 you are using a "beta" / Preview so anything goes. But you would have had to install it specially since it is not on purchased computers yet.
I called Microsoft but they wanted $99 for a rep to walk me through a repair. I did get an email response from Miicrosoft Answers which was to get rid of anything made by Norton. I was provided with alternatives. Haven't decided yet about that though.
Yeah, we feel that way about Microsoft .... It's got nothing to do with whether Norton is there and everything to do with Microsoft (and for the $99 for not supporting XP ....)
<< Even so, once I have them listed, after I close out the page and reopen it the files have reverted to the icon representation >>
I'm relying on memory for XP but open up a Windows Explorer page showing the folders files etc .like mine was
If you don't see the menu bar that begins with Files and ends with Help press the ALT key and it should appear.
Click on View and select how you want them to appear -- Details Icons etc -- and OK your way out if necessary
Then click on Tools / Folder Options / Apply ... and OK your way out.
You may get a question whether you want this view to apply everywhere or just where you are.
Please try this and let us know how it goes.
Meanwhile I am going to ask a Moderator to move this thread over to Tech Outpost since we deal with non-Norton computing matters there.
You won't lose sight of it because a link will be left here.
