There are several directories I've been exlcuding from NSS for years. I list the directories under both "Items to Exclude from Scans" and "Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection".
I just built a new system and installed Windows 8. I listed the directories under both sections like I normally do. The list remains under "Items to Exclude from Scans" but it keeps disappearing from "Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection". And when I say disappear, I mean the field is completely empty the next time I go back in to check.
I've tried entering the directory list multiple times... using apply then save... but every time I go back in to check, the list is gone.
Not sure if this issue is due to Windows 8 or not but this is the same version of Norton I was using with the previous build and as far as I know, it's the most recent version (20.2.0.19).
Are you using a Windows User that has Admin privileges? Dependent on your settings - a Windows User who has only limited privileges can not change settings in NSS - thus they could not actually add the exclusions.
Other than that - the situation you described is very different - but something to remember, the Scan Exclusions are "ignored when a scheduled or manual scan runs, while the Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence items are Listed as Real Time Exclusions - thus only apply during real-time functions. Of course I have no idea how that would cause them to disappear when you list them and then go back and check them - other than the situation I mentioned in regards to Limited Windows Users.
The setting I am referring to is located @ Settings > Administrative Settings > Product Security (you may have to scroll down) > Non-Admin Access to Settings. The default is off - which prohibits limited user accounts from changin settings. Please read the Help associated with Product Security - you will see you must be logged into an admin account in order to change the setting.
