Jammed on scanning commonly infected areas and start-up files

Hi,

My son has an HP Laptop running vista 32 bit, that got hit by a virus.

I think I have gotten rid of the virus but I'm not sure. Their might still be a trojan on it.

I tried to upgrade to NIS09.

The install seems to have gone well but When I start a full system scan.

It sits on the "scanning commonly infected areas and start-up files" and nothing seems to happen.

it just seems to be working but nothing really happens.

Another thing bothers me.

The  Windows Security Center - Malware protection does not detect Norton.

I started the service manually but it did not change anything.

My son is pretty willing to go try another software (ie: McAfee) but before I spend some more $$$ on something else that might not work, I thought I'd check with you guys.

Anyone can help me?

Regards,

Andre
