Jerky Video

Please does any one have a solution to Norton Internet security 2009 causing jerky video when watching video downloads/Streaming

Hi Pennbank,

Can you provide the name or link to the site where you watch video? I'd like to check it and see what my results are.

Do you have any other security software installed?

Also, if you can tell us which operating system you are using along with the service pack, that would help us further with diagnosing your issue.

Thanks.

Hi

I am using Windows XP SP3  with IE7 I have Sony Vaio VGN-A417S with ATI Mobility Radeon X600  Display adaptor with Intel(R)82801FB/FBM Ultra ATA storage Controllers-266f and 2653

When I uninstall the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels. and let the computer reboot and install them, the problem goes away untill I use Norton NIS 2009.

The problem is Norton related as when I unistall NIS2009 the problem does not exist.

The problem occurs with any download/streaming

ie ;

BBC iplayer for example. or any video content.

Have you tried disabling components of NIS09? Have you tried silent mode?

Silent mode has nothing to do with it. Do you know what silent mode even does? Videos cab be slow merely from your connection speed. All my streaming videos come in just fine.

Hi Pennbank,

Unfortunately I was not able to test the videos because they are only viewable in the UK. But, I have two ideas for you.

Suggestion number one:

Generally the best video is obtained when your IDE Channels are set for "DMA". You can check that by right clicking on My Computer, then click Properties > Hardware > Device Manager.

Expand the IDE Controller tree and right click on Primary IDE Channel > Properties > Advanced Settings. Check that "Transfer Mode" is set for "DMA" from the drop down box. Also check the Secondary IDE Channel in the same manner.

Suggestion number two:

It appears that this website uses the BBC iPlayer. You should confirm that your Norton Firewall is allowing access for this.

Open the main Norton window. Click on "Internet Settings". Scroll down to "Smart Firewall" and look for "Program Control". Click on "Configure".

In the Program Control window look for BBC iPlayer and be sure it is set for "Auto" or "Allow". If it is already set for "Auto", change it to "Allow".  Hit Apply, then OK and exit from the Norton interface.

Let us know how you do.

Thanks

I have tried that but no success. This jerky video and computer slow down also occurs when I watch clips from YouTube also.

Norton have suggested the following but that has not worked either.

I know that it is not my broadband speed, as when I remove NIS the problem does not exist.

To troubleshoot this issue I suggest that you to disable Firewall, Auto-Protect and then check for the issue. To disable the Firewall, please follow the steps given below :

1. Open Norton Internet Security program on your computer.

2. In the Norton Internet Security main window, in the Internet pane, click Settings.

3. Under Smart Firewall, in the Advanced Settings row, click Configure.

You might need to scroll the window to see the option.

4. In the Advanced Settings window, in the Automatic Program Controlp row, move the On/Off switch to the right to the Off position.

5. In the window that appears, click No.

To disable Auto-Protect, please follow the steps given below :

1. Open Norton AntiVirus program.

2. In the Norton AntiVirus main window, in the Computer pane, click Settings.

3. Under Real Time Protection, in the Auto-Protect row, move the On/Off switch to the right to the Off position.

You may need to scroll the window to see the option. In the security request window > click on Ok. (This will turn off this feature for 15 minutes).

I will await there response.

In the Computer Settings, Turn Off Pulse Updates; let us know how it goes after doing this.  Please use your computer for an hour to see if it helps before Reporting Back.

Floating_Red, Thanks for your thought on my problem

Many thanks for possibillity, but it did not make any difference.

I have however disabled Windows XP Indexing system and Have managed to watch a bit of Normal streaming.

Having read a few threads here, I took a look at Windows Firewall and that also was on,. NIS2009 had not disabled it  on install So I have now disabled Windows firewall,  I will see how things go from here. before marking thread as solved.
