Just got norton 360 tested it for firewall leak test and it failed!?

Hi,

Bought the Norton 360 ver 4 online from the store a few days ago. Installed and thought nothing more of it. I am running Vista Home Premium with Hughes Net Satellite. I ran a leak test and it failed. I ran other online tests for Firewall security and it failed. All other Firewalls I have used in the past always blocked these tests. What do I need to do??

Thanks.

Hi mightymutt,

You need to turn off Automatic Program Control in the Norton Smart Firewall and enable Advanced Events Monitoring when running leak tests.  This is because there is no malicious payload in a leak test, and therefore the APC allows the program to access the internet.  With APC turned off the firewall will alert you to the use of leak test tactics.  Note that your protection against such tactics is not actually enhanced by switching to Advanced Events Monitoring - Automatic Program Control will block anything malicious attempting to get online using the methods found in leak tests, just not the benign leak tests themselves.  Therefore it is suggested to leave the firewall in its Automatic Program Control configuration for everyday use.
