As it says, just upgraded from 2011 to 2012. Both of these installed the toolbar without my permission, and without even asking. How do I uninstall it, as I don't use it? I notice there are uninstall instructions for Chrome in the support pages, but not Firefox.
Hi GarethW,
You can probably disable it in Firefox: Go to Tools/Add-ons/Extensions , and then find the entry for Norton Toolbar, and click on Disable. I'm not sure how you would totally uninstall it, however

Thanks for the reply - I have disabled it, but the Uninstall button is greyed out, Symantec have placed a block on that, it seems (Which I find extremely annoying, personally).
If it can be uninstalled from Chrome, why not from Firefox?
So does no-one know how to do this?
Sorry I don't use FIrefox so I can't help.
Have you looked in Manage Add-ons? That's how I get rid of it in IE -- I disable and when the screen pops up about disabling two other add-ons I make a change there from the pre-chosen offering and that gets rid of the toolbar but keeps the warning flag system.
I can'at give the details for this off the top of my head so watch for someone who has done it more recently than I did .... and who uses Firefox ....
The Norton Toolbar can be hidden or disabled in Firefox, but not uninstalled. Antiphishing, Norton Safe Web and Identity Safe can also be turned off individually in the main Norton settings if further incapacitation is required.
Thanks for the facts SoJ
@ GarethW,
In my old bag of tricks I have found a post I made on the Comcast Forum quite awhile ago. I have not used it lately with all the updating done by IE or FF, but you may want to try it: I believe it was written for XP, if on Win 7 you'll have to go to C;\Program Files (X86) and use Norton Internet Security 2012 in lieu of Norton Security Suite.
Reboot in SAFE mode (hold down F8 before teh Windows splash screen)
Go to C:\Program Files\Norton Security Suite\Engine\X.X.X.X (the X's reflect your Norton Version #)
For Firefox, rename the file coFFPlgn.dll to coFFPlgn_orig.dll
For Firefox, create a new text file, rename it top coFFPlgn.dll and set it to "read only"
For IE, rename the file CoIEPlg.dll to CoIEPlg_orig.dll
For IE, create a new text file, rename it top CoIEPlg.dll and set it to "read only"
Restart your computer
You should now find that neither Firefox nor IE will have the toolbars.
Like I said no guarentees, but please do post backwith results if you try it.
