Just wondering

Hello,

Norton thru Comcast is NSS, An error message occured on the norton that says Norton Has been Cancelled by Comcast. Called Comcast to check why it happened. Comcast said that to contact Norton to check,. Didn't cancel my service from Comcast or made any changes. I was wondering, Why it happened. Is this an issue on Comcast or an issue from Norton.

Please Explain.

if a service or process has crashed, it should restart if the computer is restarted. Can you confirm that the processes are no longer running after restarting the machine?

If you mean, does the NSM come back online after a reboot?, then no it does not. The computer was turned on and off many times without the NSM restarting. If you are asking if some of the processes that happen in the background are running after a reboot then you will have to tell me what these processes are. I can only assume you mean if I look into task manager then the process tab but that would reqire the knowledge as to what process are needed.

Attached is a screen capture of my Notify page. As you can see, all boxes have been checked and this is my valid email address

I have tried for the last half hour to post a picture but I cannot bet past the error pink highlight this posing. I give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot seem to read the scrambled letters needed to post a reply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The audio hint is horrendous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would appear as though if I try to post a photo I get this misterious pink error. "Look for the pink highlighted error and correct" but there is no pink highligted error. Why offer the option to post an attachment then not allow it. You people have your work cut out for you!

Wilbour,

What security product(s) do you have on the PC?

If you have all the Notify options selected, you don't have to post the image in the forum.  If you want to send us images in the future, you can send them to me by email.  You can find my email address at http://community.norton.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/15038

Thanks,

Katie

After you restart your computer, can you launch the task manager and confirm if there are at least two processes running that are named ccSvcHst.exe?

Thanks for the help KatieQ. Too bad the forum does not work as intended. I will follow your instructions in the future. I have Norton 360 installed on this computer

This will have to wait until the software fails again. I will check the task manager as you requested.

There are two ccSvcHst.exe files open in task manager. NSN is not running.

My children's computer will work with NOF for days or weeks without an issue. Then, without warning NOF fails to load. It is not in the task bar and if I try to launch it from the Start menu nothing happens. The only way to fix this is to use the uninstall utility, reboot then re-install (always with the latest download form the NOF site). My son claims he is not doing anything wrong. Could he be acessing the computer in safemode then deleating the files on the hard drive? I am the only one with admin. rights and no one knows my password. The program looks like it is there it just will not turn on no matter what I do. I get no warning that it has been disabled. All I see is that they are on far longer than they are permitted via the software. I also stop getting any activity logs from that pont on. This is true for all monitored users.

Windows XP

Latest Norton Safety Minder from Norton website

FireFox 4.xx

Uninstalled then reinstalled again.

Thanks for your help....still waiting.....

If I receive Norton Security Suite thru Comcast would there also be a link to where I could get a full version for my cell phone .... For Mobil;e Security and Utilities from Norton as well ??

Try clicking in Support - Subscription Status from the main NSS screen.

I'll ask this thread be moved to the 360 board, as your product is a rebranded version of the Norton 360 product.

Hi aaa_9116,

Yes, that happens (very rarely) from time to time and it is normally a mix up in the data base between Norton and Comcast - hard to say who is responsible - Comcast controls your license - but Norton has the data base - so was the wrong info passed from Comcast to Norton or did Norton info some how become incorrect.  The important thing is you get it striaghtened out.

The following link explains a bit more and gives you the the action that you should seek:

http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/Info-for-customers-receiving-cautions-that-Norton-is-inactive/m-p/1195791#U1195791

@peterweb   As NSS does not have a Norton Account and the license is controlled by Comcast the Subscription Status option does not exsist, nor do the Days Remaining on the main GUI.

Thanks Yank

I'll know for next time.
