Must be in recognition of the 5 or 6 Kudos I have received since they revamped the site.
Thanks all, for the kind words.
If 'kudos' influences one's rank, then the issues raised by the following posts need to be urgently addressed:
Plankton:
1) The small KUDOS icon on the left hand side is not complete, only 2/3 of it is displayed. There isn't any text displayed that ld elict a response from a user even to give it. Just looks like a yellow background white a white star. Link
Floplot:
The Kudos symbol really needs to be labelled. To me it looks like a symbol for a ghost with no legs----lol
Seriously though, I think a lot of people are missing the Kudos symbol and not knowing there is one. Since I have been coming to the Forum and have become aware of Kudos, I have never seen so few of them. I know it's the weekend, but there was always such a long list and people with many kudos always listed. Link
As most forum members currently have no idea as to what the kudos' feature' represents, this 'Listing Forum Ranks' thread really comes across as being somewhat narcissistic...
Not only does the Kudo button need to be better identified, I believe it should be moved back into the field of the post itself. Since a kudo is based on the content of the post and not the name of the person who authored it, it makes more sense to locate the button more prominently alongside the post, rather than under the author's name. This would be more logical, would encourage more readers to give kudos to ideas they find deserving, and would make the number of kudos given to a particular post more visible to others reading the thread.
I don't know if the discussion of Kudos in this thread is going to result in the exposure that it needs, but you are correct SOJ in what you are saying. The location of the Kudos symbol for those users who realize what that symbol does mean does make it seem like you are giving Kudos to the person because of who typed it rather than for the content of the post. It should be moved back to the right side of the post.
Considering that in English we read from left to right and type that way also, the final thing that is done after reading a post should be the marking of a Kudos if one wants to mark a thread with a Kudos and people would notice it more on the right side I believe since that is where one is when one finishes reading a post. Just like marking a thread as solved I believe is still on the right side of the post. It should be located near to that marking of the thread as solved location.

Don't know how well champagne would mix with my meds, but I'd be game for a little bit.
I was only thinking of a few dainty sips ;-))))
*clinking of glasses*
I have changed the subject header of my message to reflect the topic of this new thread ;-))) I have also asked a moderator to change to overall subject header of the thread, otherwise there will be TWO "listing forum ranks" threads. Rather confusing ;-/
In the meantime, I agree with the others that the current kudos button is not very helpful. The old kudos button was far superior.
After reading the comments here about the hard to identify Kudos button, I have changed my signature line in an attempt to address the issue. My intent is not to solicit Kudos for myself, but rather guide new members to this important forum feature.
If anyone would like to use the same info, please feel free to do so. No credit to the author is required as I hope this may benefit the forums. Here is the HTML code which can be pasted into your signature field. Also, please feel free to edit as you see fit.

This is probably going to sound a little odd I know since I have been here for so long, but where is the signature field? I just checked all over my settings to find it. I know I must be missing something since I have seen others using signatures other than Guru's. I feel dumb now asking this question here.:(
Hey floplot, I was also scrabbling around my settings desperately after the forum update ;-)))
To find your signature box, please go to "My Settings" and then to "Personal Information" under the "Personal Profile" tab. You'll find the signature box lurking over there ;-D
Thank you. I looked there and dumb me skipped the personal information part. I looked at all the other parts. It must have been that champagne Yaso. Thank you Phil also for providing that signature. This is my first attempt at having a signature in this Forum.

floplot, don't feel too badly. I set my signature up eons ago and tried to change it earlier today. I hunted and hunted and hunted and couldn't find it. Since I knew that it had to be somewhere I took the slow methodical approach of going through everything to find it...
Thank you, but Phil created it and said anyone can use it. You will see that if you go back a few posts in this thread.. Now I have to see if I can figure out how to add Thank You Phil to that signature since it was his idea in the first place. I tried it and I see that it works. Thanks again Phil.
Better yet, why not make the suggestions a "banner" at the top of the boards for all to see? This way it seems less like people are begging for "kudos" personally.

Yeah, sometimes these brilliant flashes come in the wee hours of the morning!!!
I just thought that this way, everyone could be made aware of the kudos function no matter if someone who has the "kudos signature" has posted there or not. More of a global function instead of a personal one.
Sorry, I don't mean to step on anyone's toes here but I'm not sure why this seems SO difficult to solve this problem!
There is a solid majority that the Kudos button simply does not work and this problem is so easily solved!
All it takes is putting the Kudo button back on the right hand side (where it used to be) so that it is more obvious that it relates to the contents of the post and not just the person who made the post.
But more importantly just adding a TITLE to the Kudo button so people actually know what it is for!
Sorry but I get the impression that someone does not want to make this simple change to the forum software and I wish I knew why. I am a software engineer and this problem would be solved with a whole 5 minutes worth of coding effort.
