Issue abstract: When using Live Update on 28 September 2025 (UK) it took a few minutes and did not start, I came out of Live Update and under ‘Check for Updates it showed: “Virus definitions: ver. null (last updated 1 January 1970, 01:00)
Norton application version: ver. null - build null” I restarted the machine and it cleared and I updated as normal. Question is do you think this is an attack (Possibly MiM) or an anomaly?

Looks like another bug to me. This software is full of anomalies.

Many thanks - but back to the 70s

@James_Harris Check your date and time settings in Windows. Also what build and version is your Windows 10 install?

Many thanks for your interest and notes - I did manage to look at the Windows date and time and that was correct and I am reasonably sure that the (Board) battery is good - although I think your observation will get me to change it anyway. Winows 10 Pro 22H2 (on the subject machine)

I have not simulated the lasting dialogue showing the date as 1970; but I have now seen it on both my Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems - if you close the My Norton dialogue box and the re-open it, followed by open security page and then live update it momentarily shows the date as I had reported - it does that every time you re-open My Norton. The question remains as to whether this is an attack or an anomaly. But in any case, is the Virus Definition working or not working whilst the 1970 definition version dialogue is still hidden? I Sent short Logs from this machine. I also tied Norton Repair on the Windows 11 but had no effect or change. Tried a Norton Repair on Win11 but no change. Could not send any logs as I mislaid the Ticket Number

Your report should be at this location on your hard drive. The report ID will be a 4-5 letter index near the end of the log file name.
