Hello,
yesterday, a new email threat was spreading around the world. Microsoft(!) was the first scanner, which detected that threat. After ~2-6 hours, other major companies were also able to detect this threat (Sophos, Eset, Avira).
It took about ~20 hours, until the Symantec business product line was detecting this threat as "W32.Auraxx".
You might think that when Symantec is detecting this threat, every Antivirus product from Symantec will be able to detect it? You are wrong. The new 2009 consumer product line isn't detecting this threat (here it is 02. Dec. 2008 - 16:15 GMT+1). That's very poor :(
The new 2009 product line is quite fast - very nice. You did a fantastic job. But what's with your new "Pulse update" feature? It's seems to be just a advertisement...
Here's a link to VirusTotal about the threat I am talking about: http://www.virustotal.com/en/analisis/078280d3c575eee925ef0a3399dfb213
What I want from Symantec to know:
- Why do you detect this threat, but don't push it to your consumer product line?
- Why takes it so long for you to detect it? I mean it's a new spreading threat...
- When will the 2009 consumer products detect this threat?
