Latest version of NIS and Malwarebytes Pro

You will find users here that will argue to the death that it is OK to run both Norton and MBAM PRO together by changing some settings in MBAM.

As Dick noted, Security software companies advise against running more than one security program with real time scanning. The conflicts that can occur when both try to access, or deal with some possible malware at the same time, can actually reduce your protection level, and could even allow the malware into your system.

Stephen11, I agree with what the others have said. If you have Norton running you should not have ANY other realtime protection running. I have Malwarebytes and Superantispyware which is the Pro version, but I only use them as passive scanners. There is every chance there will be some kind of conflict, otherwise. Let Norton do its job. :smileyhappy:

I have the latest version of NIS.  Is it compatible with Malwarebytes Pro?

I have been running MBAM Pro with NIS for a few years with no problems. Runs great with NIS 2012, 2013, 2014.

2 realtime programs together are in the industry considered a NO.   I even had a thread where a user had problems with MBAM Pro and Norton together.

Then JIm, you've been lucky.  :smileysurprised:  Some say they're aimed at picking up different things, but not good practice....

I've had no problems with either of them - both Malwarebytes and NIS running fine

Hi Stephen11:

I've posted some comments here about configuring MBAM PRO so that it doesn't interfere with NIS real-time protection.

If you're referring to the compatibility warning some users were seeing with NIS 20.3.0.36 (NIS 2013) and MBAM (see here), that issue was eventually resolved and I haven't seen any posts in the forum mentioning a similar bug with NIS 21.x (NIS 2014).

And if the user were to experience problems, then what would you say to the person who followed your instructions?
I agree with what Peter, Dick, Quad and F4E said, that would be more appropriate to install MBAM FREE.

Hi Sandro_cm:

I'm not sure what instructions you're referring to, but I've never heard of anyone who encountered a conflict when they disabled the real-time protection in MBAM PRO and used it to run on-demand and/or scheduled quick scans.

FWIW, here is an interesting discussion that occurred last November.

BTW, if you search the forum you will see many more discussions regarding the use of MBAM Pro alongside Norton products.

Hi Imacri,

I don't need to read instructions in this regard, my thought, is identical to that of many other users, who use one scanner

that runs in real-time. Among other things, I don't see the need to "pay " for an additional scanner like MBAM PRO, and

then having to disable the most important part the product, namely "real-time protection".

For this reason I suggest to use MBAM FREE that would do the same job as MBAM PRO having the real-time protection disabled.

Symantec does but not as PUP.   I have already stated that.

I'm interested since (a) I've used the free version of Malwarebytes on occasion just to double check my system, and (b) there was a NewEgg offer to get the Pro version fairly cheap.  Based upon all of the discussion, I lean no but the door isn't yet shut.....

Quite right and thanks for the correction Quads -

I should have stated "better PUP/Malware handling", because IMHO, they need to do a better job of handling this class of critter...  Maybe they do in the v21 version; I hope so ... Time will tell.  Their previous version's handling of these "nuisances" seemed to allow a lot of them past their forefront prevention.  And then once past, their post ability to detect and remove them seemed to be pretty much "out the window" on fitness to task; again IMHO.

Best Regards,

John

Stephen 11, forget the Pro version. Just download MalwareBytes Free, and use it purely as a passive scanner.
