Latest version of Safari SafeWeb extension

Since the latest update to common components last week, I have been constantly pestered to update my SafeWeb extension.  I have 1.5f4 and updates enabled.  I have removed and downloaded from the http://macplugin.norton.com/?ext=nis site, but to no avail.  What is the latest version and where can I get it or make the update notifications stop without suppressing them forever.

Hi spock,

Sorry about the problem.  It looks weird that SafeWeb extension 1.5.0f4 is the latest.  Could you please run GatherSymantecInfo?

Open a Norton application that works, and choose "Gather Support Data' from the Help menu.  Send the SymantecInfo.zip that it saves to your desktop to me.  Send a message to me on the forums privately for my email address.

Help, please.

I've experienced frequently a vicious circle of prompts within  Mountain Lion's Safari 6.0.4--NOT from LiveUpdate--to download and install the SafeWeb Extension NortonInternetSecurityBF Plug-in.   The Safari extensions preference page identifies that plug-in version as 1.5.0f4.

On April 17, 2013, LiveUpdate made modifications as follows:

Norton Internet Security 5.5.0

Norton Identity 2.5f60

Norton Shared Components 2.2.0

Norton LiveUpdate 6.2.3
NortonAntiVirus 12.5

Norton Firewall  5.5.0

Responding to the prompts by choosing download and install of the extension, only results in repeated prompts to download and install.  Responding by choosing "cancel" leads to more prompts to download and install.

The extension is corrupted.  If I enter a web address--even Symantec's--in the SafeWeb slot for checking if it's safe, all that appears to the right of the slot is a white question mark on a dark grey background.

How, please, can I fix this problem and once again count on Norton to identify safe web addresses?

Respectfully, NN

Hello NN,

Sorry about your problem.  It appears like a problem of disconnect between the browser and Plug-in.  Do you observe any crashes of PluginProcess under User Diagnostic Reports of Console application?  Could you please post if you see?

Thanks for responding so promptly.

When I  just did a search for plugin or plug-in after launching Utilities/Console, the only plug-in lines of information are under:

CoreGraphics.framework/Versions/A/Resources/libCGXType.A.dylib

These words appear in the couple lines of data that follow:

libCVMSPluginSupport.dylib

also:

/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libCVMSPluginSupport.dylib

Does this tell you anything useful?  Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Hello NN and Spock,

When do you see the alert messages?  Always when Safari is launched or most likely but not always?

Can you please follow the below and provide the necessary information?

1.  Quit and re-launch Safari

2.  Access a website

3.  Launch Utilities/Activity Moniter application

4.  Filter for Norton and do you see a process NortonInternetSecurityBF (Safari Internet plug-in)?

To look for the crash logs,

1.  Launch Utilities/Console application

2.  Click on the toolbar icon Show Log List, this will toggle the left pane and show a list of logs.

3.  Unfold the section User Diagnostic Reports and do you see any log files with the name PluginProcess or SymUIAgent?

I see the NortonInternetSecurityBF (Safari Plug-in) and I do not have any recent crash logs (What I have is from before the LiveUpdate of the common components and LiveUpdate components.)

I did not get the 5.5 or 12.5 versions, BTW, only the common and liveupdate components

Not seen
". . . Filter for Norton and do you see a process NortonInternetSecurityBF (Safari Internet plug-in)?"

Not seen
". . . User Diagnostic Reports and do you see any log files with the name PluginProcess or SymUIAgent?"

"When do you see the alert messages?"

Answer: Always when Safari is launched,

The ONLY time it has not appearedwas for several hours after I did a  complete Safari re-set operation.  But, unhappily, the alert began to re-appear an hour or so ago.  Once it begins to appear, it stays on with the forced choice between "cancel" and a "download"-"install" sequence.  As I reported earlier, neither choice solves the problem.

Hi NagerN,

It seems like the the Safari plugin isn't loaded properly.  I may need more information to diagnose the problem.

Open a Norton application that works, and choose "Gather Support Data' from the Help menu.  Send the SymantecInfo.zip that it saves to your desktop to me.  Send a message to me on the forums privately for my email address.

Any progress to report in troubleshooting the Safari 6.0.4-Norton extension issue?  Thanks for any help.
