I have three computers licensed for Norton Internet Security for which the license is due to run out in couple months. Two of these computers are due to be scrapped and replaced by two new ones. Will I have to allow the existing license expire and buy a new DVD disk to install Norton on the two new and one existing machine or is there a way to license the three machines by the normal renewal subscription?

The best choice would be to wait until the current subscription expires and then you can buy a new 3 PC's 1 year protection pack and activate it on all three PC's. Reason being, if you renew now on the new PC now, the first installation will be considered as the subscription begin date and during the time you install it on your existing machine you would lose two months of subscription. And if you try to use the key on your existing machine also, it would consider it as fresh subscription and it would again begin as 366 days and you will lose the current available subscription on the existing machine.

This is what I would recommend. If you get your new computers before your subscription runs out, you can contact customer support and get the license from the 2 old computers transferred to the 2 new ones. If the 2 new computers come with a trial version of NIS and it covers the time remaining on your subscription, then you can just use the trial version of NIS, if that is what came with the computers. You can have NIS installed on the new ones if they came with some other security program installed. If that is the case, then you would have to remove that trial using the control panel method and then the Norton Removal Tool. You can then install NIS 2012 on those new computers.
You can shop around for the best deal on NIS 2011 or 2012 and then use that key to activate your updated program. When you are ready to install the program, we can give you a link which would be newer than the one that is on the CD. If you get those new computers around the time when your subscription is going to end, then you can just use the new key a day or 2 before your subscription ends. Thanks.
