Live update and quickscan

I always do a live update and quickscan before shutting down my laptop each night. I was wondering if this is totally necessary. If I don't do this manually, will Norton automatically run the live update and quickscan when my computer is inactive?

Also how does quickscan differ from smartscan?

If this does need to be done manually, is there a way to schedule it for my computers?

Yes, Norton will run live updates at random times during the day and night. Those will be readily visible within Norton history. Hope that answered your question.

This answers most of my questions but doesn't address whether norton will automatically do a live update daily.

If I read this correctly, there is no need for me to do any manual or scheduled scans since: "Your Norton product detects when you are away from your computer and automatically runs scans to assure that your system is regularly monitored for threats."

Hello. Hoping these articles will give you some idea of what specific scans do:
