version NAVISS 2009 -reinstall to version 16.0.0.125 (after 16.7.2.10 tech removal and remote uninstall/reinstall)

I'm back ! thought my problems were solved but suddently tho my auto updates had been running just fine -I signed -on after having computer shut down for about 9 hrs so i thought i'd run a manual update (upper left on console where it says ''run live update' so - clicked to do that just now -ran manual live update -started to download updates then intstall them- but install couldn't complete - there was error messge for 3 updates something the effect that Adobe or flash player needs updating -said to click to proceed or something like that - did that but after the flash player 9 attempted to install i think a message said somethign about not completing - a tool needed ? (difficult to recall all messages) ... so i just clicked-out of the entire area because i didn't know what else to do ... but i notice that as i continue to use the computer that auto live virus updates are occurring (in control panel/upper right where progress shows for updates ''definition updates' area) ...showing minutes/date of last update ..i.e. ''3 minutes ago, etc. etc. ..didn't try ''Live Update' choice again)....
What do i do now ? thanks in advance - Edythe ...
PS: when i went to CPU area it is showing two 'live updates just a few minutes ago as 'complete' if that is a clue about anything = should i just sit-back and let auto live updates handle all of this and not mess around on my own by going to norton website to find the download for Flash Player -- it seemed that the other 2 items attempting to update when i ran ''live update' (manual) couldn't complete either - and i don't know if i'm missing any important updates/virus defs due to all of this ...thanks again

Why do i need the Adobe Flash Player for and can i disable it - do no updates for it without causing Norton problems ... does Norton 'need' it to 'function'??
What About Real Player -same question - microsoft just sent pop=notice to update that also ?
If i do one or both, should i close-out programs ,etc. same steps i'd do for any 'download' ??? many thanks !!! Edythe
Sounds like Live update might have an Error of some sort. I recommend checking you are connected to the internet to download updates as if you are not connected Live update can't install updates.
Also check Live Update is On by doing the following;
(For Xp user): Go to Start, Run, In Run, Type, services.msc, services.msc will now load, find LiveUpdate, double click on it, change the start up type: to Manual then click ok. Now try Manually running live update to see if this resolved the issue.

Went there - showing set to 'automatic' but here's my question ..

if i'm able to click on 'live update' and get it 'running' even tho it's set to ''automatic' (vs ''manual') what would changing the choice to 'manual' (within services.msc) accomplish that can't be done while it's still set to ''automatic' ? just wanted to let you know where i'm 'at' in all of this stuff - lol thanks so very much for trying to help - Edythe

hello - since i last posted my response to the above i decided to restart my computer and do a manual live update (without making any changes to settings) --originally when live update didn't complete, it was suggested by ''one click support'' to wait 24 hrs and try another live update...it's been 7 hrs so i tried it ... it worked !!! no problem !!! no error messages about ''updating Adobe Flash or Real Player... what's going on !!! my eyeballs are spinning at this point ! thanks again - Edythe
Many sites use Adobe Flashplayer and Adobe Shockwave Player. These programs should be on your computer as well as keeping an up to date version of the programs. If you have older versions on your computer, then you do run risks of getting bad things installed on your computer. You can go to the Adobe website and get the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave Player. To change the version of the Flash Player, you have to use the uninstall tool for the Flash Player which can be found on their site. After you use the uninstall tool, then install the latest version of the Flash Player. To change the Shockwave Player, go to uninstall/reinstall in your windows control panel and uninstall Adobe Shockwave Player. Then go back to the Adobe site and get the latest Shockwave Player. If you have Adobe Reader on your computer, open it up and make sure you have the lastest version of that also. You can also go to the Adobe website and get the latest download for that. If you are running any old versions of those programs, then you most likely have a security issue since these programs are updated to fix security issues. I hope I didn't over whelm you with this information. I know it not strictly related to Norton's, but it is a way to keep your computer more secure by having the latest versions installed of the programs that are on your computer. You should also check out your Sun Java which I am sure is on your computer. That also needs to have the latest version installed to help keep your computer clean. Hello - did a 'search' for shockwave/flashplayer and adobe 'reader' - only have ''reader' - went to add/remove programs in C.P. and again , only Adobe Reader is showing at version 7 but version 9 is the latest
While i'm o.k. with updating the 'reader',, I'm hard=put to add anything since i'm not really comfortable doing that ''unless' that program is essential to the operation of my computer ''sooooo''' ''must'' i have ''flash and shockwave?!! i don't think they were within the error message when live update first tried to do an update (as i said all is fine now) i think it was ''reader' requiring the update (i know that = LOL) thanks for your reply - Edythe
12error12 - What version of NIS / NAV do you have running? Live Update in the 2009 or later products is a built in function and not a seperate service anymore.

Version 16.0.0.125 -have that as a result of techsupport doing a total uninstall/reinstall last week after 'suffering' with the 16.7.2.10 install ... Live Update in the 2009 or later products is a built in function and not a seperate service anymore. O.K. now you're over my head ... could you explain that in language for 'computer dummies' like myself what that means (''in function -not separate service'') - LOL
Do you have any other Norton products running on your system? no Was this an upgrade from a previous verion (pre-2009)? 2009 is my first experience with Norton =installed august 8, 2009 - don't know what version was on the installation via a c.d....and in case you wonder, all remnants of previous security software was removed from computer & checked by Norton tech.
