Ryan, the first attachment is enough. You can delete the second if you want. (Was trying to decrease the file size so that it would post.)
Thanks everyone. I have forwarded these logs to our LiveUpdate engineers and I hope to have an answer by tomorrow or Thursday.
It looks like the problem might be a corrupted definitions package for the NCO Antiphishing definitions has caused most of the problems (except Mike, I think I might have set you bcack by having you update Java LiveUpdate...sorry, but I'll find out for sure).
Thanks,
Ryan
PARTIAL SUCCESS !
As identified by gd5, the trouble does seem to be with the 'NCO for Mac Anti-Phishing Defs.'
To summarise for anyone following this topic, the partial solution is currently:-
From the menu bar select NortonIcon / LiveUpdate / OpenLiveUpdate
Select Customize this Update Session
Untick 'NCO for Mac Anti-Phishing Defs.'
Click Update
And LiveUpdate completes successfully !!
I noticed the same thing, thanks for posting.
Mike, Sabatine,
When you run LiveUpdate now by customizing the session, do you still see updates available for Submission control data, NCO defs and virus defs?
Thanks,
Sanjan
Sanjan
Just ran Customised LiveUpdate.
It said updates were available for Submission control data and NCO defs (but not virus defs).
Clicking Update gave the now-usual "Updating error - There was an error performing the update".
Mike
Yup, we identified an issue with the NCO definitions after we got all the logs from everyone here. Thanks to everyone for helping us identify this bug.
The issue has been fixed, and QA has verified that the issue has been pushed to production. Please run LiveUpdate and obtain all available updates, and make sure the issue is fixed.
Thanks,
Ryan
Just ran LiveUpdate.
Problem persists exactly the same as before.
Ditto here...
Mike/Sabatine,
Did you guys run the commands that I posted here above? If so, then I think I might have caused more problems. It turns out that those commands install a new version of LIveUpdate that isn't compatible.
Please confirm that you did indeed run the
sudo /usr/bin/java Library/Application\ Support/Norton\ Solutions\ Support/LiveUpdate/jlu.jar com.symantec.liveupdate.LiveUpdate Installer
command. If so, I'll need to find a way to revert that change on your machines.
Ryan,
I didn't run the command line you had indicated earlier. its a little over my ability and was pretty sure others more capable on this board would be able to test it.
Me neither. I still get the 'updating error' message when updating everything.
@gd5 and @sabatine,
Could I get your log files as well? The log file can be found at this location:
/LIbrary/Application Support/Norton Solutions Support/LiveUpdate/liveupdat.log
If you could post that attachment here on the forums, or contact me privately and I will send you an email address.
Thanks,
Ryan
HI everyone,
I have the same problem with update. My version of Operation System is 10.6.8 like you, but I don't know my version of Norton Internet Security. Could someone help me to find my version of NIS?
Thanks.
I did run the commands you suggested.
(N.B. The first few bits of your suggestion differs marginally from what you quoted the second time.)
Log from the past day or so attached as requested.
Is it possible that the Submission control data is corrupted as well? It seems odd that it shows up in the message window as being available for download even though it's just been installed.
Ryan,
Sorry for the delay, but here is my log for early this morning. Not sure if I got everything that would be useful, please let me know.
Cheers
Sab

I don't know the definitive answer to your question, but looking at
Applications/SymantecSolutions/ReadMeFiles/NortonInternetSecurityReadMe.rtf
seems a possibility.
Evening all,
Are we still where we were yesterday or has anyone had better luck in getting Update to work? Mine is still broken.

Sab
Thanks Mike, I will try!
