Live Update Failure

Ran Live Update and last part "process product updates" fail. Also states I do not have Internet Security setup. What? Isn't that the point? Since I have used Norton like forever....what?

It took a little time, but finally a good result. Thanks for posting back.

solved

Hello. Good news. I ran the removal tool. Reboot. Turned off wifi and unplugged that old windows computer that had updated on its own, which was most likely the reason two Norton icons appear and the Norton website identified the old 360 as being my current 360. Then I ran the removal tool again. I had recorded the reboot because previously there was an error message that would flash on screen, too quickly, so I wanted to see what it was. No error message this time. I rebooted and downloaded my software. The installer ran and ran and then stated could not connect to server. So I cancelled and behind that was Norton 360 Platnium running. So I ran a quick scan. Good. I did live update and protection updates installed. Good. Product updates download and install. No errors. So there you have it. Oh one more point, though Norton Utilities Premium needs to be reactivated, (yes I saw your note and understood) it did remove junk files and a disk defrag prior to all of the above.

If you are thinking of installing Norton Utilities 16, you will no longer be able to activate it with your product key. Norton has deactivated the subscription servers for that product.

No on the VPN. I don’t use any. I think what I am going to try next is run the removal tool and reboot and run the removal again to see if per chance it picks up a second install. I backup to a local HD so I will pull the plug on that for now until I figure this out
Also before I reinstall, I will download and run one of my older Norton Utilities on the account. Hope they’re still good. I do appreciate your help by the way. I just get grumpy. I want to start off as fresh as possible but short of reformatting. At 65 I could not bear it anymore. I am not so attentive.

Above I asked about using an ad blocker when you had issues connecting. Any chance you are using a non Norton VPN?  Norton websites are often block known  IP addresses.

Your current issues with Norton Utilities Premium, NUP, are probably due to the fact that Norton no longer offers the free NUP with a 360 subscription and Automatic Renewal enabled. If you already had NUP and 360 with auto renewal, you could continue to use NUP until the current subscription period expires. Even if you still have auto renewal enabled. The free NUP also ends if you uninstall your 360.

So I reopened 360, it said I am protected (highly doubtful) so I clicked to add to another device and got a cannot connect to server. Honestly? Two more days and then we go for refund and I spend my life on social media sharing my experiences with 360, Core, Norton Utilities and the list goes on. I obviously have time.

No ad blocker. Trying anything now. I enabled "allow from other store" setting. All same result. So I cancelled the installer and behind it was Norton 360. I thought cool. I ran smart scan. Step 1 scan files, complete. Step 2 check Network, complete. Step 3 advance issues....zap!! it blew itself out. Flashed out, gone. So I thought why not use Norton Utilities Premium, maybe that would help. It showed that I had poor health with 462 problems but I need to reactivate. So I signed into my account and there was a "free" offer to upgrade Norton. I clicked. It thinks I have Norton 360 Deluxe but I have Platinum. So I returned to manager my subscriptions. NUP is disabled. Then I remembered I have dealt with this before about 2 months ago and having spent half a day on the phone, well more like two hours, I thought that this was fixed. Guess not. I did notice that for a little bit today I had two Norton 360 icon's in the system tray, one greyed out. So as to the Norton 360 Deluxe I thought that maybe this explained why when I turned on one of my other computers, it automatically updated but didn't change the device count on my subscription page. I am so fed up. I think we deserve more than self-help advice from a crew who will at some point send us to the phone where it is a half day event talking to someone who might hang up when they have no more instructions to follow. I am a consumer, not a tech guy. I am not knocking you guys but this has already been a three day project. Someone should review my account. Make sure there is only one account.

I should have Norton 360 Platinum. The Utilities I can download a basic and try that but I seem to remember that didn't workout so well either. At least PM is back.  so what's next?

Are you using any ad blocker extension in Edge? If so, try disabling it for Norton web pages.

I removed the Norton 360. Rebooted. Connected to Norton account and download and installed Norton 360 Platinum. At first the installer found DNS error that was preventing connection. I clicked on fix which included a registry entry also. I think the error numbers were 8611 and 104. Not sure, 8?11. It came back as fixed but is now stuck with "Cannot connect with Norton server" each time I retry. This is still the Norton Installer server. I have to go out right now but will let all just sit as is until I get back in an hour or so.

One more note, Edge does not allow access to the removal tool. States it can't be downloaded safely. But Chrome does.

Okay, My fault on PM. When setting vault up as extension in Edge, I thought I was logging into PM but needed to login into Norton. I forget that everything is a separate login for Norton, Community, PM and so on. On Chrome I already had PM setup

Well since there is zero response on the PM thread, let it be known there are a ton of like complaints about the Edge/PM issue. They too are looking for answers. However I might know. Using the same login and password on Edge, gets you that it is invalid user name and password, but in Chrome it works. hmmm. Pass it on. Even after removing the extension and re-adding it. For what it’s worth.

  1. Your Norton 360 app has nothing to do with your router. You can reinstall your Norton at any time.
  2. No. Norton Password Manager, NPM, is accessed by a browser extension. You can just go to the extension/add on menu for your browser and delete/uninstall it to remove NPM from that browser.  NPM being listed as a feature just means that you do not have to pay for an additional feature.
  3. To uninstall 360 from mobile devices, just use the app uninstall method for that device. iOS you hold you finger on the app icon until the icons start shaking. Then tap on delete the app. For Android devices open Android Settings > Apps and scroll to 360. Tap on that and then tap on Uninstall. The NPM data is store in Norton's cloud servers.
  4. Norton can only protect devices on which the app can be installed. IOT devices cannot run apps.
  5. You can look at the product information at    www.norton.com . Choose a product and scroll down the page to see a comparison of what is included in each subscription level.

Okay. But I have a few more questions.

  1. Should I wait until I get my router coupon and perhaps have a new router in place?

  2. Is there a removal tool for Password Manager? What you are saying is a little confusing to me, under the “products” page, Password Manager is shown as part of the product as is Smart Firewall for example.

  3. Do I need to use the removal tool on cellphone or other devices? Or just have all devices on? Is the product “cloud” driven?

  4. Will the Norton 360 Platinum edition protect iot’s if they are ran via a “shared internet” via windows laptop pc? You know, the allow others to connect to internet via this computer.

  5. And finally, how do I determine what is part of 360 and what is not?

Thanks so much,
Jaime

If you have still got the LiveUpdate issue after turning off Fast Startup, it looks like you need to reinstall your 360. Download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool from    www.norton.com/nrnr   Use the Advanced Options > Remove only. Then restart your computer and log into your Norton Account and click on Download to install a fresh copy of your Norton product.   Then run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available?

And the Password Manager is not connected at all with the 360 product. It is separate browser extensions for each browser.

Well...Opened Chrome and PM was there and opened up. This is the wrong thread for PM. Still have live update issue.

Also states I do not have Internet Security setup. What?

Internet Security -> 'Not set up'... means = Norton Safe Web browser extension is not installed/enabled on Edge.

Norton Safe Web - Microsoft store

Call https://search.norton.com/protect from Edge to install Norton browser extensions on Edge.

Norton Safe Web browser extension installed/enabled on Edge

No change. Same results. Add to that is PM will not install on laptop nor cellphone. I want a complete refund and my $200.00 router coupon. This is nuts all the time spent on this stuff. So will you honor my request or should I go buy a kite? Glad I had the foresight to backup all my passwords and links.
