Have you had to re-download every thing all over again to make it work?
It still isnt working for me as of this morning 3 min. ago.

I actually just got sick and tired of trying to do the live update and getting the same error message…so I did something different instead…I uninstalled the whole norton and went back in to do the reloading of the whole program and PRESTO!! I got it working again…
This may help you in future troubleshooting and what to look for.
I recently installed Norton 360 on two computers - both with Win XP Pro.
The first one went in clean.
The second one went in clean EXCEPT for Live Update.
If you need the how-to details, someone else will need to help - I no longer have the specific error message link I used.
This is from memory, but maybe it can help a couple of you. Here goes.
One of the error messages I kept getting when running Symantec Live Update in Norton 360 said:
- Go to control panel, and run Symantec Live Update.
- Make a couple of configuration changes, to show detailed error messages.
- Run the Live Update (It now showed the live update step by step like the NIS program I had before).
- Half of the updates were green (OK), have were red marked.
- Drill down and look at each one of the details.
- Instead of calling Symantec help at this point, I tried the following next
- You need to look at each one - because -
- ONE of them may say Live Update cannot download the updates - go to this error message to fix the LiveUpdate program.
- The link had me download an executable file from Norton, saved to desktop.
- Ran the link to fix or redownload Live UPdate. It did go in clean.
- Rebooted (may not have to)
- Tested live update both the long way (control panel) and from inside Norton 360 - both work fine now, no problem.
- Note - remember, I had 7 or 8 red x’s to start with. The error problems were different. This one was the fix (root cause) that fixed all of them at once.
So if there is a Live Update problem, there may be a fix only to Live Update needed, not to uninstall and reinstall the full Norton 360.
Good luck.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Stick around – it’s what we need!
Well my method seemed to work for the 1st day, and then it went back to the same bull****. I tried doing the configurations of the Symantec Live update, and what I get is an error message saying "The LiveUpdate control panel applet could not access LiveUpdate settings information. Errod Code 0x00000000"
At this point I feel like I bought the darn thing for nothing!
I've had this very issue for a month. I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium w/SP1 and all updates installed. I tried uninstalling my Norton 360 v2 (retail product), using the Norton Removal Tool, and reinstalling. I am still getting Operation Failed with no further elaboration.
The luall method failed. I went into the Support tab and IView said that "It seems that no LU 2.0 is running, or at least..." and the error message ends right there.
I have been able to use Intelligent Updater to keep my virus definitions up-to-date. However, because I uninstalled and reinstalled, I am now only at version 2.2.0.2 of Norton 360 itself. How can I get back up to v2.5.0.5 without LiveUpdate?
Good Day, I too am having the same issus with the live update. I have Windows Vista 64 bit. From teh reding I have been doing I do not thisnk this is OS related. I am on Norton 360 v 2.5.0.5 and I have htis issue. I have removed from my machine 3 times, including the files and the registry entries. I have reinstalled and patched and still I get the LU1812 error running LUALL from the command line. I am running the updater manually.

I have endured three support chat sesions, while the techs are helpfuul and well meaning... they are not able to resolve this issue. They follow the same notes I do... unintall ... reinstall. I wait 24 or 48 hours and the results are the same.
Good luck...
This LU 2.0 not running is a pain in the ***. I have done the 2 hr live link with support 3 times now and they do the same thing every time and they say to wait 24 to 48 a try it, LOL, what do you know its back. This better be returnable because it obvious that theres no fix. It has also affected my windows updates but they dont want to fix or claim that it is caused by installing 360v2 even though this issue has never came up until i bought 360v2
Tes this is affecting my windows updates and they dont want to believe is an issue caused by norton 360 after hours of there tech link sessions (3 total) with no positive results
Did you have any luck?
Hello bordour, Arapaho, et al.
I'm sorry to be late to this one. So far, we've been unable to reproduce this particular problem and the reporting we have on it is inadequate as the failure is occurring so early in the process as to prevent the files from getting written.
For this reason, we've build a special build of LU that will help us get logging enabled sooner so that we can properly identify the cause and get it resolved. If you are interested in helping us out, drop me a PM and I will provide you with instructions on what to do.
Thanks,
Matt
I've been working on this problem for about a month and no solution has been found. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am running Vista ultimate sp 1, and Norton 360 2.2.0.2.
Thanks,
Lindsay
All, today I received a call from Norton Support offering a subscription to Internet Security 2008. They want to to uninstall the Norton 360 ver. 2.0 and install the new product. The Internet Security product lacks the backup tool...
I have asked for an email detailing the offer and instructions... I will update you all if this materializes...
Yes, I definately would before I attempt to return it.
Iwas actually venting and didn't expect a response
If the offer is still good let me know
TY
Hi Matt, I would be interested in any new approach you have to this problem. What is a PM and I will contact you that way.
Dick
Hi dirob,
I just sent you a PM. Just look in the upper right for the in the upper right hand corner of any community page to access your PM's.
Thanks,
Matt
Hello, I have the same issue as everyone else posting in this forum. I had a Symantec associate remote to my computer and work on the issue for about 2 hours and all he could say in the end, was yes I can see you are having this problem but we do not have a fix at this time. I would greatly appreciate any help or assistance I can get in resolving this issue. If you need to have me send any logs or remote to my computer, please just let me know. Thanks.
Matt i also need your help with live update on norton 360 because it always says that it can not connect to the live update server. I also need help setting up back up because it wont allow me to connect to my online account.
ArmandoAbarca28, thank you very much for the help unfortunately downloading and coping the new file into the Symantec directory did not work. I followed the instructions, exactly but I think I know why it did not work. I' am running 64 bit version of Windows Vista. That of course is only a guess on my part but it is my only explanation. I also have been very wrong on my guesses in the past so this may be no exception. If you have any more idea’s or suggestions please let me know I would be more than happy to receive any new information or try any possible fix.
I too did the steps above and once I open the file when it has saved I get this error message:
"This application has failed to start because unrar.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
And then it is followed by another window that pops up saying:
"LiveUpdate Engine COM Module has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Anyone ever get a working fix for this? I’m happy to help in whatever way needed.
