Live Update Terminology

I just realized -- being kind of slow -- that the summary reports of Live Updates are ludicrous.  For each individual update there is some kind of designation like "recommended" or "critical".  What's the point of these designations?  We no longer get any choice in what is updated and what isn't.  When Windows Update makes similar designations, they are prior to the installation and the user can choose which updates get installed.

Is there some intent to let us choose the updates in the future?
