What WIndows O.S. are you using?
Do you get any Error Messages?
I’m have Windows XP Professional and no I do not get any error messages.
Please try upgrading to v2008. It will solve a lot
You can reinstall LiveUpdate from NIS 2005 CD or download the latest version here. I hope this helps.
I have Norton Internet Security 2005. I noticed a few months ago, I’ve not been getting the little notification that there are new virus updates. I manually logged in requesting “live updates” and after scanning it says that there are no new updates needed. I’ve been doing this for at least a month and I know there are updates out there. What is the problem? Can anyone help? I do not receive any error messages when I scan for updates.
Hi Sugarland1 (again),
I guess this post better explains your other post. The problem you describe is most likely a result of a problem with the LiveUpdate catalog file. The utility in this document can help rebuild that file and should resolve the problem.
Let us know how it goes,
Matt
besides that, is there any reason why you did not upgrade to the latest builds?
It has solved lot's of bugs and it works much smoother
How can I tell when the last update was on my viruses? I have Norton Internet Securitiy 2005.
Hi Sugarland1,
If you open the program and click on the Status link in the left-hand pane under the Norton AntiVirus section, you can see line item entry for Virus Definitions (within the Subscription Status section).
I would like to note that the threat landscape has changed somewhat since the release of 2005 (in late 2004). There have been several improvements to the scanning engine over the years and, if you are running Windows XP or Vista, I would recommend upgrading to 2008. Aside from getting a vastly improved program, you would be eligible for free upgrades to the latest version of the program as they become available as long as your subscription was active.
Thanks for posting,
Matt
Hi Sugarland1,
I've merged 3 of your threads together. Please keep all related questions in a single thread.
Thanks!
I may have another problem with this. We just went from dialup internet services to DSL with Quest. I noticed if I go into control panel to go into interactive mode, one of the tabs tells me that I am using dialup mode. I changed to Broadband connection and it asked me for login and password (which I made up). It still will not let me update, but gave me an option to run another program. I opted out of it until I got some answers from you, but now when I changed it back to dialup (which I can still do for not because I wanted to get my favorites changed over to DSL before I cancelled) it is still asking me for a password which I did not have before. I guess my question now is how to I configure this before I move on.
It tells me that my virus definitions were update 8/13/08. I had this set up for manual updates, so I could see it when updates were being done. After I got DSL could this have changed? So now, if my updates ARE indeed ok, now I have a problem with my configuration. As I mentioned in another message posted in this thread, When I looked in Control Panel , Symantec Live Update to set up Interactive Mode, I notice that the dialup mode was in place. I changed that to Broadband, which I am now using and now I can’t get connected to Symantec for the Live update. When I tried to put back in dialup mode (which I will still have for a month - to transfer my “favorites”) I still do not get connected to Symantec - it just hangs. Please help.
I checked in the program under Norton Antivirus/Virus Definitions and found the last update of 8/13/08. I went into control panel/ Symantec LiveUpdate to change “do not use my dialup networking connections.” Now I can connect to Live Update and it tells me all is updated. So this tells me I have the latest definitions and that there have been no new updates since 8/13. Does this sound right? Also, am I responding in the correct way to let you know what I have tried and what is working or not working. Let me know if I am doing something wrong. The info screen does not make it clear. THanks so much for the reponses. Sugarland
To follow-up with Matt’s recommendation, you will need to purchase an upgrade to Norton Internet Security 2008 in order to “upgrade”. You can access the upgrade information HERE. Thanks!
Thanks, I’ll check it out and will probably follow your advice.
