Live update won't get Norton Toolbar v2011.7.4.3 as required for Firefox 9.0.1

I want to run Norton 360 with Firefox.  The sticky note at the top of this forum says that to get Firefox 9 to accept the Norton and Symantec toolbars, you must repeatedly run Live update until there are no more updates to download.  At that point you should have Symantec IPS version 3.2 and Norton Toolbar 2011.7.4.3.

I did this and had to restart about 3 times (even though I just bought, downloaded, and installed it today from the Symantec web site and it updated itself) until it finally said that everything was up to date and there were no more updates to be downloaded and my computer did not need to be restarted anymore.  I got Symantec IPS 3.2 but the Norton toolbar is still at version 2011.7.3.6, not 2011.7.4.3 as required for Firefox 9.0.1.  Firefox is still forcibly disabling the Norton toolbar, and I can't enable it.

Two questions:

1) Why isn't Live Update downloading the latest Toolbar?

2) Is there any way I can manually download the 2011.7.4.3 update since Live Update doesn't seem to work properly?

Welcome,

Question 1: Live update may in fact be downloading the necessary update. FF may not be aware of it.

Question 2: Try doing a control panel uninstall of FF, Reboot and reinstall FF.

Let us knkow how it goes

Hi

I have the same issue with my new laptop. My old one is running v2011.7.4.3 but no matter how many times I run live update on the new one it just won't download. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox twice but still no luck!

Hi Markhayworth & CF,

Welcome to Norton Community,

Norton 360 v5 Norton Toolbar version should be   2011.7.4.3 (updated version) to have enable button in FF->tools->addons->extension, If you don't have latest version, it means still patch is not applied into your system,

In order to get that patch, please run liveupdate repeatedly  until it shows " your Norton product has latest updates"

Once you got the latest version(2011.7.4.3 )  Go to FF->Tools->Addons->Enable Norton toolbar addons and restart FF

Note: If you have installed N360 V5 newly on your system, you need to run live update 9 times to get the latest updates

Please find more info from this link

After performing above steps, if you still have this problem. Could try un install and re installing the product , follow the below steps to un install and re install

If you use identity safe, before un-installing the previous product, take a backup of Identity safe data

Remove NIS from Start Menu or from Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs  (if this is not work, follow below steps)

Please download Norton Removal Tool from following link :  www.norton.com/nrt  and follow the procedure which is mentioned in the link

Install the NIS  and Run Live Update until you get no new updates(Run 9 times)

Restore your Identity Safe data

Please keep your Norton product key handy to activate your product after installation or by logging into nortonaccount you can find the key.

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes?

Thanks,

Senthil

Hi Senthil

Ok thanks that worked. Shame no-one told me before that I needed to run live update 9 times though to get this update. In fact it's a shame it's even necessary to do that in this modern age!

Thanks again
