LiveUpdate and your IP-address

Greetings.

I'm thinking of getting software to hide my IP-address when websurfing. This should enable me to be a lot more anonymous than now.

However, would this interfere with LiveUpdate? I'm no IP-expert and don't want anything to interfere with that.

Welcome Willem,

Your Norton program knows how to call home and the Norton servers know who is calling and how to respond. So long as what you are doing is with the browsers you shouldn't see any problems with your Norton updates.

Keep us posted and,

Stay well and surf safe

Thanks Dick, that's reassuring. However, and I may be dense, but what exactly do you mean with "So long as what you are doing is with the browsers"? You mean "as long as I'm hiding my IP-address from within IE (in my case)"?

Willem Vermeer.

Norton Update and other functions that access Symantec servers do not use the browsers on your computer.

The annonymous browsing you seem to be referring to, will mask your IP address when you are browsing using IE or Firefox ,etc browsers. The Symantec program would not be using the masking features.

Try using this hidemyass.com in hiding your IP Address. It is very reliable and you wil feel safe while browsing the net.
it can be installed on smart phones (like iPhone and Android), tablet computers, and a variety of operating systems for laptops and desktops (including Mac OS/X, Windows XP/Vista/7, and Linux)
You can also use proxy servers and etc.
