LiveUpdate - Can it auto-update definitions prior to daily scheduled scan

I am suggesting that that the latest definitions download PRIOR to a scheduled daily scan.  Presently, this is not happening and I need to run LiveUpdate prior to running a scan.  Otherwise, scans do not have the latest definitions.
