I did a live update and ran a quickscan and it deactivated my audio device on my laptop (Windows 11). I tried for hours to get it back, including reinstalling my audio driver and nothing worked. Ended up having to do a reset to a previous date, which finally fixed the issue. Now I'm afraid that the next live update will create the same problem again, yet it's important that I keep my antivirus up-to-date. What do I do?
Hello Marie. My best suggestion is, DO NOT, use Norton Driver Updater for any reason. If its doing updates on its own automatically disable it. It isn't a mature product yet but may be somewhere down the line. Other have reported their system because not bootable after DU installed drivers. That is the worse case scenario any user can find themselves in. Forego DU and save yourself the headaches it does and can cause.

I was using Norton 360 and doing a routine Norton Live Update before running quick scan. As soon as I did this, the computer crashed.
I initially did a reset to the night before and that's when my computer started again but I lost my audio device. Error message said ''audio device is not installed'', even though it was. It was as if my laptop could not detect it. I tried reinstalling from the manufacturer to no avail.
Finally I ended up doing another reset to two days prior (instead of the night before) and my audio device came back.
Operating system is Windows 11
(I have Norton Driver updater. If I remember correctly, I tried to install the driver through driver updater before trying to install from the manufacturer directly. Driver Updater didn't detect any new driver to install. Then I tried through the manufacturer and that didn't fix the problem. The only thing that worked was the second reset to another previous date
I worry that a next norton live update will make me waste time like this again and lose the work I did for the day.
Do you run Norton Driver Updater or Norton Software Updater?
Norton 360 v22.24.3.2 or v22.24.5.6?
