I am also having the same problem. In addition to this one, I also have had to disable BITS since it was creating a constant activity between my laptop and Linksys router. I used TCPview and Wireshark to see what all the constant activity was about and it kept saying:

Hi floplot, Even with a Reboot Now their working again..Gorpy1
I've tried to reboot , but I'm still getting an error with web protection and now activity map.
I run on Windows XP. I have installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 since it came out. I do all the updates monthly. The last update from Microsoft for was an Update for Windows XP and two Security Update for Windows XP. These were all downloaded and installed on 3/16/11. I also run Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 and install all its updates. On the same day, I installed an update that Microsoft said was critical for Windows Live Upload Tool and the Microsoft Silverlight Update.
My NIS is the 2011 version. I checked with Norton's website and the system told me I had the latest version.
The screen shots of the error will go attached to this email as images on Word. The first slide should be the second and the second should be the first in the right sequence. Your system will not allow me to attach a Word document with images. I am unable to help you with this. I tried RTX, but your system rejects it.
Please let me know if this helped and when the issue will be resolved. My concern is mainly that I am unable to tell if the rest of the firewall and protections are working when there's a big red X on the little icon that is always on top.
THank you.
Hi! 1ndr21M1r31,
Has your NIS completely shut down? You may need to simply restart your system and try Live Update again.

Hello
There seems to be a problem again. There is another large thread about this. I am getting the same error now also
Thanks.
Hi! All,
I did a quick check and while my XP Pro system is recieving the updates without a problem; I am now recieving reports that other systems are not. The systems now reporting this issue seem to be those that did not experience it last week; I am quite sure that the Symantec crew is hard at work trying to fix this issue please be patient while they work to correct the issue.
Please state whether or not your system was affected by this issue last week this may be of some help to Symantec as they work to correct this issue.

I had the problem last week also, different error code, but same problem.
Hello
I have the error lots of other people are writing about. I don't understand any of the "solutions". I bought Norton because I don't understand the techy stuff - so if the techy protective stuff goes wrong - I'm basically stuck.
Is there any kind of link I can click on that will activate something to automatically fix whatever the problem is?
Also, is it really dangerous for me to be using my computer right now?
Hoping to hear something ... :-)

Hi! Ski,
Welcome to the Norton Community!! :)
You're still protected by your Norton product.

I just realised that the first posting I made, simply giving the error number as a heading, will make people think I didn't bother to look at the discussion or solutions provided. I did - and don't understand any of it..
If anyone can just tell me what to press or whatever - to get an automated fix going - I'd be really grateful.
with thanks,
ski
PS I found it hard enough to understand how to post a message. I could only post this second one by going back with the arrow to reach the original page with "new message" on it - because I couldn't see how to find it again otherwise. :-/
