For no apparent reason neither the automatic Norton update or a user-initiated update is working. UP to 15 Feb it was working - since then it isn't. I've not changed anything on the computer. On initiating update I now simply get the message 'Updating error There was an error performing the update'. There seems no way to get any further information about what error or why. My subscription still has 6-8 months to run. All other aspects of Norton (and of my MacBook) are working normally. Can anyone explain why the LiveUpdate function is not working? I'm using Internet Sectority for Mac with Mac OS Leopard. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.
If you are not using the Comcast version of NIS and your LiveUpdate version is not 5.1.2 already, you can try using this updater:

Many thanks - much appreciated - appears to be updating fully now.

Yesterday, I got the "Live Update Error" when LiveUpdate ran as scheduled. The same happened today, so I Googled and found this answer. I installed the new version of LiveUpdate (mine was version 4.x!) Well, that fixed the LiveUpdate error, but now when Norton AV is run, I get an alert that says, "the scan engine could not be loaded. Please reinstall norton antivirus."
I would do that, except that my university, which provides the software, doesn't allow more than one download, and the flashdrive I saved it onto (two years ago) failed.
Any ideas?

What version of NAV and what version of OS X are you running?
Hi!
My computer is running OS X v. 10.5.8 (with all current updates), and I have NAV 10.1.2.

OK, thanks for the info. I am currently investigating whether NAV 10.1.2 is compatible with LiveUpdate 5.1.2 and will let you know what I find out.
Great! Thanks.

LiveUpdate 5.1.2 is not compatible with NAV 10.1.2. Sorry that was not made clearer. Since NAV 10.1.2 is no longer a supported product, our recommendation is to update to NAV 11.
In the meantime, you can download Intelligent Updaters for the virus definitions from here:
http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=nmc
Use the NAVM9_Installer for NAV 10.x.
Thank you! I think that did the trick.
Hello, I've had that problem before on my Mac machine several times. Just run the liveupdate again. It should update again. If that doesn't work, restart your computer, than run update again. If that doesn't work, I don't know what else to say. You might have to reinstall the Norton for Mac again on your computer. I've had to do that once on my pc with Norton 360, and it work. What ever you do, don't give up on Symantec Norton, it's the BEST!! I don't trust any other. I won't use any other protection.
