Liveupdate fail to complete

Norton 360 v20.3.0.36 on windows  7 home premium
Live update does the check for updates, but fails to download them.
I've tried the intelligent updater, which runs successfully but doesn't solve the problem.  I also tried NRnR to remove and reinstall, liveupdate worked once but then fails on subsequent attempts.

other than running a full system scan that was it.

Hi,

You might want to run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool to confirm that you have a complete, clean copy of the program on your system.

Sorry, I abbreviated it... maybe I wasn't clear.
I did run the intelligent updater and then NRnR (Norton Remove n Reinstall) when that did not solve the problem.

In that case I would recommend one of the free sites listed below where a trained specialist can assist yo in determining if you are infected and help you clean your system. Scan failures can be an indication of an infection protecting itself from detection and removal.

Hi sfc_oakley,

Please verify your system time and date are accurate.

Since the NRnR did not help your situation any, I would suggest you attempt a clean install of N 360:

If you use Identity Safe for your Logins, please back it up (export) the data so it can be Restored (Imported) after you install a fresh copy of N 360.

Plese remove the copy of N 360 you have installed, using the Control Panel uninstall via Programs & Features.

Download and run the Norton Remvoal Tool once and reboot after it is completed. The NRT can be found here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us&lg=english&ct=united+states&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&entsrc=redirect_pubweb

Download a fresh copy and install: (select the edition of N 360 that you have)
 N360 Standard - www.norton.com/n360s_20
 or
N360 Premiere - www.norton.com/n360p_20

Once installation is complete, open N 360 and manually Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond "no more updates found". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no more updates found" and then reboot one last time.

Once totally updated, don't forget to Restore/Import your ID Safe data.

Please keep us posted.

OK, Norton removal tool and a fresh install did not solve the problem. It worked for a while, cycled through several times downloading patches, installing and rebooting... but then it gets to a point and refuses to download any more. It says there are more downloads, but they fail.
I became frustrated. I formated my C: drive, reinstalled windows 7 fresh. Then I reinstalled norton 360. Same results.
It cycles through several times before the downloads start to fail.

Things are not looking good at the moment - please follow dickevan's suggestion to go to a malware removal site for assistance, as it appears your attempt at updating has been blocked by something.

is there a log file for liveupdate? where would I find it?
There is no explaination of the error when I run it.

I can't imagine that any sort of Malware survived a complete reimage of my hard drive and a reinstall of both windows and Norton 360. If I had an infection it's gone now  and yet the symptoms persist.
What I think is happeneing is that liveupdate won't let you download some of the more recent updates until you've run the appropriate patches. I think one of the patches fails and now everything after that is always going to fail to download until that's properly installed.

Please run System File Checker in windows & restart the computer. Then try to run LiveUpdate again.

Thanks,

HarryP

I ran the file checker and rebooted. No change.
Is there something that would cause my computer to act like the clock is set to the wrong date and time while it's showing the correct one? The reason I ask is that fixing the date and time was the very first suggestion when I started investigating this problem and I've started getting an error in windows live mail that seems to be related to a wrong date and time as well.
