LiveUpdate Fail

I assume NIS 19.6.1 English is now available in my country across the ocean in Malaysia, and am looking forward to get the office problem fixed for good.

LiveUpdate showed:

NIS Engine

Status: Failed to complete

Update Criticality: Recommended

It did not show I am getting the 35MB download as posted by other users.

I retried 10mins later but same thing happened, so I doubt restarting my computer would result in a successful update.

This is the first time I am getting a engine update failure on NIS2012.

Hi

Please run the manual updater from here and then Restart the Coputer and try running the Live Update. Also Please check the Date/Time in your Computer make sure its been correctly configured.

Hi cilixz,

I have noticed today a few Live Update fails and a message stating that n360 was unable to contact the Norton LiveUpdate Server.  Trying a little later,  the updates were successful.

I hope this helps,  Dave.

Dear Subash,

Failed with 20120318-006-v5i32 and today 20120320-034-v5i32

Both times, I ran the updater, restarted, ran liveupdate... still NIS Engine fail...

Date and time are correct as to Malaysia's UTC+8

Hi cilixz,

Are you using 32 bit operating system or 64 bit operating system.

If you are using 64 bit operating system, go to this link http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95 and try to download and run intellegent update for 64 bit. once you updated it . restart your computer.

Hi bharath6,

I'm on Win 7 Pro 32 bit

NIS 19.5.0.145

Can you try booting into safe mode, then running a full system scan to see if you have something preventing the update?

@cilixz

Do you have any other security program running along with Norton Internet Security in your Computer? (Like Microsoft Security Essentials, etc)

Hi Subash,

Only NIS2012 and MBAM Free.

Is MBAM running as a Realtime Scanner or as On-demand scanner?

MBAM free should not have a realtime scanner to run.

Thanks Dick for the additional hand.

@cilixz

Can you please attach the error log for the Norton in your Next post.

Error log can be found in: C: --> users --> % Your account username % -->Enable the "Show hidden files and folders"option --> Hit OK --> Appdata--> Local--> Symantec-->Attach the CEDUrl.txt file in your next post.

Enable the "Show hidden files and folders"option: Goto the option Shown in the circle below and then click View then enable the show hidden files and folders option.

Hi cilixz

Thank you very much for the Error Log. It seems like some of the remnants of the Old versions of the Norton Internet Security are interfering with the Current Functions of the NIS, so please follow the steps here to completely remove all the Remnants and Install a Fresh Copy of the NIS12 and then Run Live Update Continuously until you get the message your product is upto-date.

Hi Subash,

I upgraded from NIS2010 to NIS2011 without using NRT, but installed on top of NIS2010 as recommended by your fellow employees in this forum.  I also upgraded to NIS2012 by installing on top of NIS2011 as a recommendation made in this forum too.

Anyway, I shall try NRT and reinstall when I'm free, and will update you on any status then.

Thanks.

Hi cilixz

It is recommended to do the seamless upgrade from the old to the new version, because the new version will replace the old version. But we cannot expect the same from all the computers and not all the computer environments are the same. If the Old version files were corrupted that might cause unstable function or malfunctioning of the overimposed New versions. So please do a clean install by following the instructions link in the previous post.

Hi Subash,

I'm on this NRT page but it doesn't list Norton 2012 product in it.

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&actstat=activated&substatus=current&ncoap=1&layout=&partner=&ispid=&sitename=

Is it ok to uninstall NIS2012 then run this NRT?

Hi

Go here and select the Third Option.

Dear Subash,

After uninstalling and NRT, I downloaded 19.5.1 and managed to update to 19.6.1, thanks!

By the way, I am not sure if this is of importance, but before uninstalling, my NIS version was 19.5.0.
