I can't update my Norton Security Suite from comcast all the way. I run liveupdate, it runs it for like 10 minutes (shouldn't take that long), and then it says, failed to check for some updates. anyone got any ideas what may be wrong?
I do not have comcast toolbar installed, i'm running norton and windows defender but windows defender hasn't done anything to Norton (yet). i installed Norton on 4/20/2010 and it hasn't ever done anything like this. I basically just use windows defender to notify me of changes to my computer.
I'm not saying this will correct your problem, but try this:
- Open Windows Defender
- Click Tools
- Click General Settings
- Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
- Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
- After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
- Close Windows Defender
I tried it and i got no result. Is it possible that the update server or whatever Norton uses could be down?
I just ran a Manual Liveupdate and it completed successfully, so the Live update server appears to be working properly.
Just got internet back and still the same result. Any more ideas?
Hello 100chilly
Welcome to the Norton Community
What was the previous security program that you had installed before Comcast Norton Security Suite and how was it uninstalled? What operating system and service pack are you using please?
You can use the intelligent updater to get the antivirus updates for today. Please pick the appropriate version.

I've wiped my computer several times so basically this is my only anti-virus i used. I'm currently using Windows XP Home Edition with service pack 3 installed.
Hello 100chilly
I would suggest running a full scan with the free version of malwarebytes. It's a good 2nd on demand scanner which will not interfere with NCSS as long as it's the free version.
Download the free version, install and update then run a FULL scan. After the scan completes you should post the logs back to this thread.
You can find Malwarebytes here
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
It is a safer location to get the program from than malwarebytes themselves because some malware creators have large lists of sites that they block. Please be careful to down load the correct program ----the FREE version of MALWAREBYTES
(Thanks to Delph for providing the alternative site)
Please come back with the log and then we can see what might need to be done next. Thanks

I've also tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but its still doing the same thing.
Okay this has been going on for 3 days and i'm starting to get a little mad with my Norton Security Suite. I've been running the anti-virus tool manually for 3 days with one-click support and i'm tired of running it.
Do you have any proxy set in your computer?
When the LiveUpdate error shows, click on View Summary, and get the details about the error message, and the updates which failed.

I believe that I have no proxy's set on my computer, I have a screenshot of the failed update in my image gallery.
Hi 100chilly,
Please let us know the version of Norton Security Suite you use, you can find it from Help & Support > About. You can try the following steps in meantime:
1. Delete all files and folders from Windows Temporary Folder.
2. Clear the contents of prefetch folder.
3. Turn off "Norton Tampter Protection" inside Settings.
4. Navigate to the following folder and delete all *.x* files inside:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\N360_4.0.0.127\Lue\Downloads
5. Turn on "Norton Tampter Protection".
6. Run LiveUpdate again.
Thanks to Carlos_Linares(Symantec Employee) for this solution which has solved the same problem in NIS 2010.
Let us know the results.

I've tried what you suggested and i got nothing out of it.
I've even wiped my computer this morning and it still does the same thing.
By "wiped my computer" do you mean you reformatted and reinstalled windows and norton?
If thats the case, I would think it has to be a hardware problem.
I saw the screen shot and can see your getting the smaller updates but just not the virus definitions.
You never stated (or I missed) how you connect to the internet.
If your using wifi or a router, can you try it connected directly with a wired connection to the modem without any router?
Also make sure your system clock, including day month and year is correct.
