I'm no expert but I've seen here instances of LiveUpdate getting corrupted (some of its files that is) and although there may be a way of dealing with this since LUD is a separate module in the current versions you could uninstall it using Remove Programs and then reinstall it again.
Have a look at this Symantec document:
I was a little concerned that the OS's listed did not go beyond XP but it does say it is for up to Liveupdate 3.0 so I would guess it is OK since you have not actually said what OS you are using or what version of Norton Internet Security you have.
Perhaps you could fill us in on that and add how you installed NIS -- was it from a download, from a CD and are you by any chance using a version supplied by your ISP?
Before you try the Steps suggested in Post 02, make sure you remove LiveUpdate from your system via Add/Remove Programs.
Hi tim2tired,
Could you please check out my private message to you and send me the log files I asked for there? It would be great if you could do that before trying out any remedial steps. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the emphasis but that's what I already said:
<< since LUD is a separate module in the current versions you could uninstall it using Remove Programs >>
Thanks for jumping in.
