Over the past two months LiveUpdate has persistently failed to install all updates. I have repeatedly uninstalled N360, run the clean-up utility, and reinstalled. It still fails to update the definitions (at least I believe this is what is not updating). I can manually update using the Intelligent Updater from the Symantec "AutoTools". The automatic updating appears to run for a couple of days, although it appears to update every few minutes, but it eventually stops working.
I have contacted tech support, who has been unable to tell me what the problem is or, more to the point, how to fix it. This problem occurs on three different machines running both different versions of Vista and Windows 7.
The log.lue file contains the following cryptic information:
...
09:39:42.777 ERR - The download for mui$2cn360$2cmuidir_4.0.0_symalllanguages_livetri.zip timed out; Lue failed to retry the download for this file.

09:39:48.891 INF - "<NULL>\Engine.dll"
09:39:48.891 ERR - GetFileVer(): exception - file: "<NULL>\Engine.dll" doesn't exist
All together there are about 150 ERR lines in the log. Many of these seem to involve a GetFileVer() call exception following an AppendPath("<NULL>", "\Engine.dll") = "<NULL>\Engine.dll" instruction.
Does anyone at Norton/Symantec have any suggestions? I can't believe I'm the only person having this problem, not given an identical, recurrent pattern on three different machines.
I'm about ready to switch to Kaspersky.
N360 v4.2.0.12
