What is the timing between the start and termination? Most likely, there are no product updates or virus definitions to download at that time. Does your event log ever show and downloaded updates from Automatic LiveUpdate?

Tony,Thanks for reply to my message.

The itnerval is 40-50 seconds. I checked the log for today and all them started and terminated message only.

Are there ANY instances at all of LiveUpdate downloading and installing? Are you definitions up-to-date as of today?

I have not seen any successful message so far. But the date under "Norton Internet Security" (tab)=>Settomgs=>Program Updates always showsw a current date.

What is the schedule behind the auto live update? does it run every 15 mins or every 2 hours? I don't see a patter at all.

Thanks,

Ramesh

LiveUpdate is set, by de-fault, to run every-four-hours, un-less you have changed it.

Remember that LiveUpdate will not run if you are not Connected to the Internet.

Thanks for the reply.

As far as I know I don't see any option where i can set the liveupdate schedule. So i think it is in the default schedule. But i don't see 4 hour interval as per the event viewer. I wonder what is going on within NIS.

Do you get any Error Messages?

When was the last Full System Scan?

I ran the full scan on 8/4/2008. no error message.

It seems to me that LiveUpdate is working okay since your Virus Definitions are up-to-date; however, did you run LiveUpdate manually to get these?

Also, check to make sure how often Automatic LiveUpdate is meant to run.  To do this: Start > Control Panel > Symantec LiveUpdate > Automatic LiveUpdate tab.  In the General tab, set LiveUpdate to Express Mode; this Mode Downloads and Installs all Updates except the ones that require a re-start and you will get a notice asking if you would like to Download and Install.

Let us know how you get on.

I really appreciate your help with this regard.

i checked the symanec live update under control panel and it is set to 240 minutes. so it is 4 hrs. I changed it to express mode under general tab but did not check the two other boxes. I am still wondering why are those entries are created in the eventvwr. Just now i logged into my machine from hibernate mode and i see the following entries in my event viewer:

Do you ever run LiveUpdate manually to get Updates, i.e. clicking on LiveUpdate on the Norton Product?

You're welcome, thara01.  :-)

yes, i have done that sometimes. only during couple of times it said downloaded new updates and most of the times it is uptodate.

do you see similar entries in your event viewer?

How often would you do that, e.g. every third day, every two hours; every fifth day, every four hours...?

I do not use Automatic LiveUpdate so I cannot tell you.

Message Edited by Floating_Red on 08-09-2008 10:33 PM

I usually do once in 2-3 days, since my automatic live update is on.

In between those three days, does it show your Virus Definitions [Protection Updates] as that dates in-between, e.g. manual LU on August 06, then you run LU on August 09, would it show the P.U. as August 07, August 08, i.e. P.U. would not go from August 06 to August 09 when you run m.LU?
