I was recently prompted by Norton 360 that my data was at risk and I should perform a backup. I have received this prompt before and have always performed the backup locally to a Western Digital 'My Book' 1TB external hard drive with 860GB of free space. On this occasion the backup stalled well into the backup process and indicated that the backup failed: yet when I terminated the backup session, the Norton 360 dashboard indicated that the backup had been successful. The next day when I powered up the computer I again received the warning that my data was at risk and I should perform a backup. When I tried to initiate another backup session it failed immediately and stated that another backup session is in progress. I have run a disc scan and virus scan on the external drive, disconnected and reconnected the drive and rebooted the PC. I continue to receive this error message each time I attempt to initiate a backup session. I found a diagnostic tool on the Norton website (Help Center/ Get Support) that I initiated to fix the backup problem. Now the Dashboard displays on the backup tile, as well as on a pop up window with a scrolling bar, that a fix is in progress. This has been in this state for about 2 hours and except for the scrolling bar on the popup window header nothing appears to be happening. What should I try next? (Norton 360 is up to date and I am running Windows 10 on a PC.)
