Hi, I'm a pretty much a newbie -
I tried to download the latest version (NIS-ESD-21.6.0.32-EN.exe) of NIS from link www.Norton.com/latestnis at a public library onto a USB drive. I clicked the link from a forum thread, and there was green in the bar and the security lock icon in the first window (where one clicks Run/Save/Cancel) but when I clicked Save and went to the next window (the one with the bar across and "Estimated Time Left") the green color and security lock were no longer present. Is that normal and OK, or should the lock icon be present during the entire download process?
Also, the third window showed "Q5IXPVNI to E:\" - I know E: refers to the drive for USB drives, but is "Q5IXPVNI" OK? I had expected to see just a final "Download Complete" window.
Also, the file is 345MB, and the Transfer Rate shown varied from less than 100kb/sec to 224kb/sec so it was taking more than an hour. I didn't have enough time allowed at the library, so I came back the next day to try again. This time everything was the same (no green and security icon present during download from second window on) except the download 'jumped' from partially filled bar (showing percentage of download complete) to full bar, and the final "Download Complete" window reported "Downloaded: 210MB in 16 minutes 3sec" -- I know this can't be right because the file is 345MB. Was the transfer rate just too slow to handle the download and gave up?
--The OS at the library is XP Professional and I think IE is 7 or 8.
--Finally, I have to get the latest version of NIS this way, at a library, because I have no second PC. I'm trying to update NIS on a Compaq Presario which has never been connected to the internet and which came with NIS 12 but never activated. (Yes I am downloading NRT and will use that first following instructions I've found on forum threads. And I have unused product keys from NIS 13 and 14 CDs purchased from Amazon).
Thank you in advance, and if you ask me a question I may be slow in answering because I have to get to a library to get online - which I will try to do every day until this is resolved...
