Locked out of Identity Safe

Have used Norton products for years, always been the BEST.  Norton 360 ran out and just loaded NIS 2010.  I've used "Identity Safe' for  a couple of years with the same password.  Now after loading NIS 2010 I receive an error message that I'm using an incorrect password and I am now "locked out"  of my "identity safe".  How can I reset my IDENTITY SAFE password and save all my usernames and passwords.

Hi angrydon,

Welcome to the Norton Community. What OS and SP do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit? Did you remove N360 before you installed NIS? If so, how did you remove it?

When changing products it is recommended to uninstall the old one (N360 in this case) and run the Norton removal tool before installing the replacement one (NIS).

Also, can you confirm your version of NIS from Help & Support > About or Support > About? The number will start with 17 or 18 and be in the format of 17.xx.xx.xx or 18.xx.xx.xx.

Had you done a backup of ID Safe before changing over to NIS?

Best wishes.

Allen

When I loaded NIS 2010 it found  and removed Norton 360.

I'm using Windows XP.

My "SP" assume this means service provider.  If so I have time warner.

NIS ver is 17.6.0.32.

After installing NIS did an 80MB update

I did not do a backup of my ID Safe.  Have not done in previous years.

Thanks Allen for the reply.

Hi angrydon,

By SP I meant Service Pack. WIth Windows XP you should have SP 3. You can verify this by right clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties.

There has not been any known issues with NIS 2010 having to do with not being able to log into ID safe. You are also not at the latest version of NIS 2010. After installation and running Live Update, did you reboot the computer and run Live Update again after the reboot? Going from the default of installation of NIS 2010 to the latest version of 2010 takes several steps and live update will have to be run several times with reboots at certain points.

Please run live update again and reboot. Then run live update again. Repeat this process until it says there are no more updates. Then see if you can log into ID safe. Let me know your new version number once you have done all this.

Also, it would have been best to install NIS 2011 instead of 2010. After we get your ID safe working I would recommend upgrading to 2011 but let's get to that in a bit.

We normally recommend explicitly uninstalling N360 and running the Norton removal tool before switching products like this but let's see if we can get it working without doing that first. We may have to come back to this later.

Does everything else look good with NIS? Does everything report Secure on the main user interface? Any other problems you have noted besides not being able to log into ID safe?

Thanks and best wishes.

Allen

Thank you Allen, after about a dozen live up-dates and reboots, the identity safe recognizes my login.  Thank you, I do not have to re-enter all my usernames and passwords.

Hi angrydon,

You are most welcome, glad to have been able to help out.

And as Hugh said, back up your Identiy Safe. :smileywink:

As a follow on suggestion lest it go unnoticed. I mentioned earlier that you should have installed NIS 2011 instead of 2010. I would recommend that you do this upgrade now.

Please confirm if you wish to do this and I will provide the appropriate links and instructions.

Best wishes.

Allen
